🎉🏡 The Linford Club’s 100th Birthday Celebration – Saturday 27th June! 🏡🎉

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone for a very special day as we celebrate 100 years of The Linford Club, and we’ve got a fantastic line-up of local talent and entertainment to mark the occasion.

🎶 12:00pm – Pipe Major Billy James

We’re honoured to have our good friend Billy James opening the celebrations. For the past 35 years, Billy has been the family piper to the Duke and Duchess of Rutland at Belvoir Castle and has performed for many dignitaries and members of the Royal Family, including Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Billy will begin the day with a few moments of reflection at our Memorial Rock to mark Armed Forces Day, before leading everyone down to the main celebrations. He’ll also be with us throughout the day, playing between performances and helping create a truly special atmosphere.

🧁 12:30pm – Newtown Linford Brownies Show

The wonderful Newtown Linford Brownies will be taking to the stage with a surprise performance. We’re sure they’ll bring plenty of smiles and a little bit of magic to our centenary celebrations!

🎸 1:30 pm– Steve Fearn

A familiar face to many, and here at the Linford club, Steve Fearn is a talented guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Joined by guest singers, Steve will be performing a brilliant selection of classics from the 1950s through to the 1970s & 1980s.

Many will know Steve from Brass Foundry, Fingers’n’Fumbs, MiNT’s Dog Eat Dog, The Executives and, of course, his much-loved Elvis numbers!

🎤 4:00pm – Ding n John

Bringing us into the afternoon are the fantastic Ding n John – an acoustic duo serving up all your favourite singalong tunes.

From The Beatles to Beyoncé, Johnny B. Goode to Whisky in the Jar, Wild Rover to Dirty Old Town, and modern favourites, there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy.

❤️ This is more than just a birthday party – it’s a celebration of our village, our community, and 100 years of memories made at The Linford Club.

Everyone is welcome. Come along, bring your family and friends, and help us make this a day to remember.

The streets were full of smiles, cheers, and people raising a glass together.

That’s the spirit of VE Day — remembering the moment peace was finally celebrated.

Today at The Linford, we’re raising a glass to those who served and sacrificed. As a thank you, all past and present armed forces members are invited in for a free pint or glass of wine.

To our members, If you served, or know someone who has, come and join us today — and feel free to tag them below so we can celebrate together.

It’s also our Golden Happy Hours today from 4–7pm, so there’s even more reason to join us. See you at the bar as we raise a glass to mark the occasion.

A Piece of Newtown Linford History:

The Linford Club Turns 100 🎉

Did you know one of Newtown Linford’s best-loved places has been at the heart of village life for a full century.

The Linford — or simply “The Club” to many locals — dates back to 1926, when Mr Pettifor of the Anstey Brewery bought the land next to the Old Post Office Row for £100. The agreement was that the proposed club would buy his beer and repay the £100 when it could afford to. This marked the beginning of The Club, with Zaddy Harrison becoming its first steward.

In 1928, a brick frontage was added, including a bar and billiard room.
During World War II, the back room — formerly a skittle alley — became a small factory where around 30 local women assembled aircraft parts for Dunlop.

The original wooden hut was replaced in the 1960s by the brick function room still in use today, hosting weddings, parties, live music, exercise classes, Brownies, and many other community events.

Officially known as the Newtown Linford Ex-Servicemen’s Club, and no longer affiliated with the Legion, it remains a private members’ club owned by its members.

A huge thank you to all the our volunteers, bar team, and managers, the committee members — past and present — who have helped keep The Linford going.
