We had a great evening last night! Thank you to everyone who came around to our Annual Pumpkin Carving Competition, and congratulations to our winners! Pictures to follow in a different post; this one is to tell you about all the exciting fun we have prepared for you this week:

- Monday (26 Oct): Our international and intergenerational open mic is on! Authentic creative minds come together with Tom B**r hosting. From 8 pm.

- Tuesday (27 Oct): The funniest quiz in town. With the exact mix of challenge, fun, pop culture and kazoo! All this, arranged by Ben Crosthwaite. 8.30 pm start, but come early and secure a table to avoid disappointment.

- Wednesday (28 Oct): Rowan and Friends return to the Golden Ball, this time accompanied by some friends and local legends Bull. To make this even better, they are playing a small tribute to the Magnetic Fields. What is not to like? 8 pm to 10:30 pm.

- Saturday (31 Oct): The spooks are out and about at our fantastic Halloween Party. Our Community DJs will keep the best music for dancing, and our staff will make sure you get a prize if you have one of the best costumes of the evening. Music starts at 7 pm.

- Sunday (1 Nov): The amazing Baby Band South York led by Kirstie takes over our Garden Room to entertain your little ones. This time with two sessions! They are now sold out, but if you register your
interest, you’ll be added to the waiting list! From 1:30 pm

- Sunday (1 Nov): The week comes to a close with our traditional folk session! From 8 pm.

Cosy weather is here, but we are here to keep your mood up with excitement and great community events. This week we have:

- Monday (19 Oct): Tom B**r hosts our legendary Open Mic. A list full of talented people and emerging York stars. Come down early to get on the list. 8 pm start.

- Tuesday (20 Oct): The Quizmasters Guild and Union has given Ben Crostwaite his licence back, meaning he will be here to test your popular culture knowledge and kazoo-decoding skills. It starts at 8.30 pm, but you'll need to arrive early to grab a table.

- Wednesday (21 Oct): We get the turntable out; you bring 4 or 5 records to play for the room and chat about them, meet new people, and have a nice b**r. From 8 pm.

- Sunday (25 Oct): The star of our week, and the official kickoff to our end-of-the-year celebrations. The pumpkin carving competition is here, and it gets quite busy. It’s a family event, and all proceeds go to the BHPS. A public vote will decide the winners, and the bar provides the prizes! What else could we ask for? Great event! It starts at 6 pm, but you can arrive a little earlier to prep.

What a great weekend we just had!
Thank you to everyone who came to both our dancing events. As always, there is more to come this week:

- Monday (12 Oct): The open mic that brings the best talent in York is on, hosted by the very much loved Tom B**r. Get down early to get on the list. 8 pm start.

- Tuesday (13 Oct): Our weekly Pub Quiz is back, and it is waiting for your team to get tested. A great laugh and challenging questions. 8.30 pm start.

- Wednesday (14 Oct): A new evening, displaying emerging talents, is getting started by Road Less Travelled. This time Zoe Cure is bringing her indie-folk to our main bar. It is pay-as-you-feel, and we are sure it will amaze your ears. From 8 pm.

- Thursday (15 Oct): Midway through the month, and it is your last chance to experience Poetry and Jam before they take a break. In our Garden Room from 7 pm.

- Sunday (18 Oct): As always, our oinsignia folk evening takes place in our garden room; join them to play with them, or just listen with the best b**r in town at hand. From 8 pm.

One week today!

The first RLT introducing gig at York's best community pub, the Golden Ball.

The brilliant Zoe Cure joins us after releasing her debut album this week. Free entry/ pay as you feel- donations will be taken on the night! With support from local folk musician Sam Lightfoot-Loftus.

Zoe is an indie-folk artist based in Leeds. Drawing influence from celebrated contemporary songwriters such as Adrianne Lenker, Laura Marling and Angel Olsen. This week she has released her highly anticipated debut album ‘Wave’: a deeply emotive and intimate collection of songs exploring themes of love, loss, solitude and the cyclical patterns of the
natural world.

Since releasing her EP ‘Two Piano Songs’ in 2022, Cure has supported the likes of acclaimed artists such as Allegra Kriegar, Helena Deland and folk legend Martin Carthy. The raw emotional honesty of Cure’s vocals, intricate finger-picked guitar and powerfully poetic lyricism have prompted comparisons to acclaimed songwriters Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling and Billie Marten.
