Huge shout out for our friend Dave Alfred who’s playing his first solo gig today. Dave will be singing his wonderful songs about local heroes, highwaymen and his favourite football team at the Black Cat Micropub starting at 6pm. Best of luck, Dave!

The builders developing the old Subway building decided that they didn't want the waste bins down Post Office Lane, so they dumped them outside the front of the Black Cat Micropub on Monday.
I've been on to the council to see if they can do something, but nothing so far. It's absolutely disgusting, and it's getting worse by the day, with residents dumping rubbish on top of rubbish.

Councillor Mike Bell - Lib Dem, is there anything you can do?

I've heard from many hospitality and tourism businesses in Weston and across North Somerset who are suffering because of cost pressures, business rate rises imposed by the government, high VAT and needless red tape.

That's why I am pleased to back Chef Tom Kerridge's new , campaign to unite hospitality businesses and teams, high-profile chefs, and sector trade bodies and organisations.

The campaign’s single ask is for the Government to cut hospitality VAT to 10%, in line with Europe, and it is urging everyone to back its call by signing a new petition, with the aim to get a million signatures.

You can show your support here: https://www.vatstheproblem.co.uk/

It is already supported by major hospitality groups, including UKHospitality, the British Beer and Pub Association, the British Institute of Innkeeping and CODE Hospitality.

The campaign officially launches on 1 July, but you can sign up to show your support now and help our local pubs, cafes, restaurants and visitor accommodation and visitor attractions to cut the cost of doing business.

A VAT cut would be good for the economy, good for jobs and help promote the investment we need.
