Edited update: Unfortunately this poor lady passed away 😢 such a waste of a life, and such a preventable death 💔

———————————————————————

Today’s admission needs all the hope she can get, as I suspect she has eaten rat poison and this is usually fatal outcome 😢

This big, healthy, adult female called Gina should be out making babies, but instead she was found partially collapsed in an alleyway behind the finder’s terraced housing. On admission I pointed out to her finders that Gina seems floppy like her muscles are far too relaxed, like jelly or a water balloon wobbling…which is how rat poison works; it paralyses the rat or whoever ingests it whilst the other ingredient interferes with blood clotting and causing fatal internal bleeding. It’s a horrid horrid way to die for any animal ☹️ The finders then said they have had words with a neighbour a few doors down because of their constant use of rat poison, which then supports my suspicion 😔

Rat poisons, slug pellets, weedkillers… they all affect more than their targeted species! Poisoned rats can kill cats, owls, and birds of prey for example. Poisoned slugs can kill garden birds, frogs, strews and snakes. Weedkillers can poison earthworms, beetles, and other vital creatures that are in the food chain.

PLEASE find alternative ways to treat pests! In this day and age where we literally have so much information at our finger tips there are no excuses anymore. What you do has an effect… make it a positive one 💜

Please do not use poisons or slug pellets in your gardens,as you can see from the attached pictures the poison doesn't always kill the intended target.
This hedgehog will die a slow and painful death, thankyou to Wareham and Sandford hedgehogs for sharing the post.

Now is the time when mum's having litters. They carry their young for around 35days gestation, some may had already and some near ready to have their babies.
SO PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL IN YOUR GARDENS.
They with nest in anywhere they think a suitable place for them to feel safe to have them, but it is not always a good place for us in our gardens.
They will get into compost bins, dried leaf piles, open black bags of rubbish, under tarpulin, inside a shed, garage, greenhouses,
CHECK the black bags before you bin it
CHECK the compost bin before you fork it
CHECK the leaf pile before you move it
CHECK the old piece of thrown down tarpulin.
CHECK the old compost bag
CHECK around you sheds regularly make sure none are in there trapped and cant get out as in garages and out houses keep the doors shut.
CHECK greenhouses.
JUST CHECK EVERYWHERE
WE ALL ❤ HOGS LETS HELP THEM ALL WE CAN .
Now is the time to be MORE AWARE if you have dogs, even to let out in the day if you are aware you may have a nursing mum then please keep a close eye on your dog.
if YOU ARE AWARE THAT YOU MAY HAVE A NURSING MUM THEN PROTECT HER.
Once a nest is sadly disturbed where babies are scattered from there nests, so small possibly injured ,their mum so scared for her life and her young she runs off and the babies are left orpaned.
Babies need their mums, the first few days of mothers milk gives them the nutrients they need, like any animal and for the first few weeks of their life, she is their comfort their source of food, their warmth she is their guidance to forage later so for babies to be with there mothers gives them the start in life they need and she will care and protect them the best she can,but once a nest is touched or moved or disturbed she will feel threatened and will harm her babies or even eat them or reject them and leave them to die unless they are found and given a chance of survival at a rescue.
If you are concerned for any hog nest you may just accidently come across then cover it back up DO NOT TOUCH INSIDE.
If you have to move a nest then DO NOT TOUCH IT call a rescue for advice.
DO NOT HANDLE THE BABIES, rescues will wear gloves as the scent once touched with a human smell again mum can reject them, and attack them if she gets stressed.
Our Hedghehogs are in Such DECLINE,and we can all help these babies to survive if we are MORE AWARE AND LOOK OUT FOR SIGNS THAT THERE IS A PROBELM.
BABIES WILL SQUEAK FOR MUM TO CALL HER,if you hear continued SQUEAKING and not seen mum then call your local rescue for advice asap.
If you are ever in doubt, pick up the phone call for advice it is always there for you and call your local rescue.

Another 2 sad calls today 😭
Mums and babies disturbed in gardens.
One where babies have been left since saturday without mum as she run off not returned.
And now a call 2 terriers had got to a nest, they were using mum as a ball in the garden and killed one baby and the remaining 2 are coming here but one has bite wounds.
PLEASE PLEASE, be aware of hedgehogs esp this time of year, and your dogs.
It's heartbreaking, this is 3 calls over 2 days where mums have been frightened off and babies are dying,it so upsetting, working so hard to save these innocent little animals tares at my heart some times.
No one knows if they have hedgehogs they nest in what they think is safe for them, sadly no where is safe for them.
We need to be aware of how these little animals are suffering, somedays i am at a lost that i don't know how much more i can do 🥺 HEDGEHOGS NEED MORE PROTECTION,
MORE PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE.
LETS SEE MORE HEDGEHOG PROGRAMMES ON TV ,RADIO STATIONS
BLOODY LOUD SPEAKER IN A LITTLE HOG CAR TRAVELLING AROUND 🤣 GIVING OUT INFORMATION on my god list is long.
