Fabulous fun with Sherburn Bartley Sanders at the Everyman Folk Club on Friday evening. Chris Sherburn, Denny Bartley, and Emily Sanders have a distinctive sound when playing together – Denny’s driving rhythms on guitar are elevated by Chris’s intricate concertina runs, and the musical texture is enhanced by Emily’s swirling fiddle. In traditional and modern songs and tunes, these accomplished musicians combined their creative harmonies and counter-melodies with great skill. Special mention to young Barney; Chris and Emily’s son. In the first half, Barney’s lovely treble harmonies enhanced Don Bilston’s Fireman’s Song, as did his hearty woo-hoos 🚂 – and he charmed us all when he returned to the stage for the last two songs of the night.
Terrific floor spots too, from Bill Johnston & Sheila Darling, Mike Acott, Jeremy Fox & Patricia Woodward, Alan Day, John Wright, and Dave Tricker. Thank you one and all.
Fog and traffic cones proved to be no deterrent to our magnificent audience, who were in fine voice throughout the evening. We’ll see you next time – Friday 27 November 2026 – with Two Idiots and an Absent Friend, aka Keith Donnelly and John Watterson in tribute to Les Barker.
