The Bull Public House

The Bull Public House Pretty rural pub located at top of Essex, excellent beers and warm welcome. Dogs also welcome.

The inn was established in 1780 by Hawkes & Company of Bishop's Stortford, with money earned from supplying malt to the London breweries. They still owned it in the 1870's when the licensee was George George. At some point the pub was called The Black Bull but nobody knows when the name changed. The pub today has the same narrow-paned lattice windows as a photograph taken in 1876. Pitch penny was

also played from this pub, where pennies were tossed into a hole in the settle by the bar, which is still in place. In more recent times, a doctor's surgery has run from the pub, where a curtain was put up dividing the bars, thus making one side a waiting room and the other the consulting room.

Friday 5th June is Buffalo Joe's with their chicken wings and burgers.
Saturday 6th June is a special visit from Ronnie’s kitchen with his Katsu menu.

Latest news on the road closure. The workmen have now opened the road between Langley Lower Green (at the Bull) and Kilhams Green. So you can now drive to Shaftenhoe End and beyond past Langley Farm and the Rally School. There are however, still water leaks on this road.

They have now moved to the stretch between The Bull and Waterwick Hill. This means you can approach The Bull Public House from Kilhams Green, from Langley Upper Green down Bull Lane and down Waterwick Hill and turning left at junction.

However, you cannot get to The Bull from the Clavering direction on the Lower Green road as it is blocked just before the turning to Waterwick Hill.

Friday 8th (tonight) we have the return of Tasty Turk with their shish kebabs and koftes.

Saturday we have Pimp My Fish UK with a range of traditional and pimped up fish options.
