Pretty rural pub located at top of Essex, excellent beers and warm welcome. Dogs also welcome.

The inn was established in 1780 by Hawkes & Company of Bishop's Stortford, with money earned from supplying malt to the London breweries. They still owned it in the 1870's when the licensee was George George. At some point the pub was called The Black Bull but nobody knows when the name changed. The pub today has the same narrow-paned lattice windows as a photograph taken in 1876. Pitch penny was also played from this pub, where pennies were tossed into a hole in the settle by the bar, which is still in place. In more recent times, a doctor's surgery has run from the pub, where a curtain was put up dividing the bars, thus making one side a waiting room and the other the consulting room.

Two great bits of news! The internet is up and running. Whoop, whoop. And our Friday food truck this week is Buffalo Joe's.
So what will you choose - Buffalo, Korean, or Honey G wings or maybe a burger? Eat in with a refreshing pint.

Sadly some fault has occured to our internet so our card machine is not working. BT have not been helpful and cannot get someone out until Wednesday. If possible, cash would be appreciated until it's sorted. Many thanks.

Open at 5pm today (bank holiday) as there is a bar at the fete to support. Then fully booked tonight from 7.30pm.

Tonight (Friday) 'down that Bull' we have a new food truck for you to try. Sanjeev's Kitchen is a Sri Lankan food truck offering delicious Kottu curries.

Here from 5.30-8.30pm. come and give them a try.

The new August flyer is winging its way to you all in Langley. Here it is for all our followers. This week we do not have a food truck on Friday, as we have our Music in the Garden event on Saturday 15th with the return of the amazing rockabilly band -The Suffolk Slappers and food from Smother Spudders with their tasty burgers and fries.
