Our brilliant friends at Smoked Oak are taking over the beer garden for a full three-day weekend, because apparently two days just isn’t enough when there’s this much tasty stuff to feed you. 😏

You know the drill by now…South African food at its finest and freshest, cooked fresh off the braai and packed with all those smoky, spicy, properly delicious flavours we’ve come to know and love. 🔥

📅 Friday 18th - Sunday 20th September
📍 Nags beer garden
🍖 Fresh off the grill, all weekend long

And Saturday is looking particularly lively, with the Reading Football Club footie bus heading out for the game, so if you’re jumping on the bus, why not fuel up with some Smoked Oak first? ⚽

It’s their last stint with us of 2026, so come hungry, grab a cold one, and give them a proper Nags Head send-off. See you in the garden. 🤙

Persian food and pints in the beer garden? Yes please. 🍻🌿

Saffron Hill Food are back with us today and tomorrow for their final stint at The Nags Head in 2026...and if you’ve been meaning to try their food, this is your last chance for a while!

Expect their lovely fresh Persian dishes, wraps and rice bowls, packed with flavour and made with plenty of care. The kind of food that makes a couple of beers turn into an afternoon. 😏

They’ll be serving Friday & Saturday, so come down, grab yourself something delicious and give Saffron Hill a proper send-off before we begin to tuck the garden pop-ups away for the colder months.

One last Persian feast of the year. 💜🍚

Well...we ask for reviews, but we didn’t quite expect anyone to write us an entire blooming POEM. 🥹🍻

A huge thank you to Joseph, who left us this absolute belter of a review. We’re genuinely chuffed. ❤️

If you’ve enjoyed a pint, a plate, an event, a quiz, a chat, a sunny afternoon in the garden, or just one of those “I’ll have one and then head home” moments by us that somehow turned into something more…we’d love to hear from you. 🫶

Reviews really do mean a lot to us, and while poetry isn't compulsory, we certainly won’t complain if you fancy giving it a go. 😏✍️

Thank you for keeping The Nag's Head full of stories worth writing about. 🙏

🌈 Getting Pride-ready at the Nags 🌈

Tomorrow, Reading Pride takes over our town, and we’re getting ourselves ready to raise a glass to it. 🍻

We’ve got a couple of excellent beers from local breweries pouring, brewed with Pride in mind, and a little nod to the brilliant LGBTQ+ community that makes Reading the place it is. 🏳️‍🌈

Because Pride is about more than a colourful parade. It’s about being able to show up as yourself, be accepted for who you are, love who you love, and have a damn good time doing it.💃🕺

That’s something we’re proud to champion here. We’re a proper community boozer, we like good beer, good music, silly nights and bringing people together - and there should always be room at the bar for everyone. ❤️

So, whether you’re heading into town for the celebrations, taking part, watching from the sidelines or simply fancy a pint somewhere you can be entirely yourself…come as you are. You’re welcome here. 🫶🌈

We’re getting another big dose of Caribbean flavour in the beer garden this weekend! 🌴🍗

Jampat’s are joining us again, Friday 4th & Saturday 5th September, serving up the good stuff: jerk chicken, curry goat, plantain, dumplings & more. 🔥

Two days of tasty food, cold beers, and very good reasons to hang out in the garden. 🤗

Come hungry and leave happy! 🇯🇲🍺

We don't really post our cellar lists anymore but we're quite proud of the plethora of choice down in the room of Wonder and Intrigue at the moment.

77 different craft beers brought to you on keg and cask from 46 different Independent Breweries, 1 Brasserie, 1 Bottle Shop in, 1 ex Brewery, an Amateur Brewers Association, and an Award winning beer writer. There's even a couple of beers that we had a hand in brewing!

Eagle eyed wild beer fans will have noticed multiple Farmhouse, Saisons, Cuvees, Terroirs and other naturally foraged and barrel aged delights from the fantastic Dan Wye on the shores of Loch Fyne. Origins beers will be permanently available very soon and are almost as good as Siren Craft Calypso.

These will compliment our very own local wild beer specialists Dolphin Brewery who now also have their own permanent line and a new apple and rhubarb sour fermented on farm-pressed apple juice from Heron Valley Farm in Devon, along with an elderflower sour using fresh elderflowers foraged locally from Sulham woods.

If sours aren't your thing there are also plenty of Pale Ales, Milds, Stouts, Porters, Modern Bitters, IPA's, Session IPA's, a DIPA, a Radler, and even a Barley Wine to celebrate Elusive Brewing’s 4th Birthday.

If none of them tickle your fancy we have loads of lagers & ciders from local breweries such as Double-Barrelled and Tutts Clump Proper Cider.

And if alcohol's isn't your thing there is even a permanent non-alcoholic tap.

Probably shouldn't have made this post on Bank Hangover Monday but Hey-Ho...

Hair of the dog? 🍻
