Sad news about the cancellation of Reading Beer Festival this year.

“Dear beer and cider enthusiasts,

Despite the best efforts from our team of volunteers, who have been working extremely hard since summer 2022 to put together a 2023 event, Reading CAMRA Beer and Cider Festival will not be taking place this year.

A huge amount of time has gone into considering a number of different options but we have been unable to make all the pieces fit together this time around; infrastructure and the health of key team members have been critical factors.

It is therefore with a heavy heart that we have sadly taken the difficult decision to cancel RBF for 2023. We understand that this news will come as a disappointment to many of you, and we share in that disappointment.

We are striving to bring RBF back in 2024, but we will need your support to make this happen. Later this year we’ll be recruiting for additional volunteers to join the core organising team who help to bring the festival to life. This will be crucial for us to have the best chance to run a successful event in 2024. Do keep an eye out for updates from us on social media about how you can get involved.

Your local beer and cider community needs you more than ever. Both the events industry and beer community are being hit by the cost of living crisis and some of the knock-on effects of the pandemic; we need only look at the number of pubs and breweries across the UK closing each week. We encourage you to show your support by visiting your neighbourhood pubs, getting involved with your CAMRA branch and participating in the Reading Ale Trail.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support, and we hope to see you in the pub soon!”

Our story

The Foresters Arms in Brunswick Street was formerly a Justins-Brinn pub proclaiming the virtues of their ‘Ales’ and ‘Celebrated Stout’ and later owned by Dymore Brown. With its fine tiled frontage it later became a Morlands of Abingdon pub, and you can still see the logo on the front of the pub. The pub is now owned by Admiral Taverns and in April 2015 Peggy and Paul took the helm. Since then the pub has featured in The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide for three years running. The pub is also featured in CAMRA’s Historic Pub Interiors list for being Reading's last corridor pub (see https://pubheritage.camra.org.uk/pubs/historic-pub-interior-entry.asp?NatPubID=REA/READIN0250&Detail=brief)

We feature live music on the first Saturday of every month, as well as a quiz night every other Monday night, darts most Tuesday nights and pool or ukulele nights on Wednesday nights.

Why not pop in and say hello?
