We've now settled into our autumn opening hours at The Buttery Café & Riverside Gardens.

From September and throughout October, we'll be open **Wednesday to Sunday, 10am–5pm**, and closed on **Mondays and Tuesdays**.

As the seasons begin to change, it's a wonderful time to visit Doone Valley. Enjoy a leisurely coffee by the river, a homemade lunch, delicious cakes, or a Devon cream tea surrounded by the colours of early autumn.

Whether you're exploring Exmoor, walking the Lorna Doone Valley, or simply looking for a peaceful spot to relax, we'd love to welcome you.

Badgworthy Water | Into the Doone Valley. 📖

Gnarled, moss-furred oaks lean out over the path beside Badgworthy Water, the stream that runs down through the heart of Doone country.

R. D. Blackmore set Lorna Doone in this valley, and walking up from Malmsmead it is easy to see why he chose it — a green, secretive place of stepping stones, old trees and very little else. There is a memorial stone to Blackmore beside the water.

Follow the stream far enough and you reach the ruins of a medieval village at Hoccombe Combe, which local legend has always claimed as the Doones' stronghold. 🥾

🎶 LIVE MUSIC TONIGHT SUNDAY 3Oth AUGUST AT THE BUTTERY 🎶

August Bank Holiday weekend hasn't exactly delivered the sunshine we were hoping for, but we're determined to finish the weekend on a high!

Tonight we're delighted to welcome Basil's Balls Up Band to The Buttery. Formed in London in 1974, this long-running and legendary pub-rock and comedy outfit blend quirky original songs with lively ska covers for an evening that's guaranteed to raise a smile.

ACZZ Rocked The Buttery Cafe & Riverside Gardens!

What an amazing night we had with ACZZ at The Buttery Cafe & Riverside Gardens, Malmsmead on Saturday 15th August!
It was a beautiful evening for an outdoor show, and from the moment we hit the stage at 7.00pm, we knew we were in for something special. The crowd were absolutely fantastic, singing along, joining in and rocking with us from the very first song right through to the very last!

It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces, along with some new ones who came along to check out ACZZ for the first time. Your support really does mean a lot to us, and seeing everyone having such a great time made the night even more special. You certainly knew how to party!

The combination of AC/DC classics and the greatest hits of ZZ Top clearly hit the spot, with plenty of singing, dancing and good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll energy throughout the evening. What more could you ask for on a summer's night?

A massive thank you to the legendary Tim Williams and all his wonderful staff for making us feel so welcome and looking after us so well. It's a fantastic venue, and we absolutely loved playing there.
And we also have to give a massive thank you to Simon Pembery for making us sound awesome! 🎶🔊 Cheers mate — you did a fantastic job as always!

And then came the icing on the cake… we've already been invited back! 🎸🤘
This time, we'll be returning to The Buttery on Saturday 29th August — 7pm start, but we'll be bringing our classic rock band DEALER along for the night. We're already looking forward to it!
Let's just hope the rain stays away for that one night anyway! 🌧️😎
Thank you once again to everyone who came along, sang, danced, cheered and rocked out with ACZZ. You were brilliant!

If classic rock is your thing, you won't want to miss this!

On Saturday 29th August, we're delighted to welcome Dealer to The Buttery Cafe & Riverside Gardens. Expect a night packed with legendary rock anthems from the likes of Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Deep Purple and more.

Before that, we've got two fantastic nights of live music lined up:
🎤 Saturday 22nd August – Shoot the Glass bring all the best of 80s pop & rock.
🎸 Friday 28th August – The Renegades with classic and contemporary rock favourites.

And then on Sunday 30th August we have the one and only Basil's Balls Up Band playing their unique original songs as well as classic ska covers.

Food and drinks available throughout the evening, with pizzas served from 6pm and our licensed bar open.

How awesome were AC/ZZ!!?? 🔥🔥🔥

These boys will be back on Saturday 29th August to shred 🎸the bank holiday weekend with their other outfit 'Dealer'. Expect to rock even harder with covers of all the greats: Led Zeppelin, Cream, Thin Lizzy etc!

However, before we get too in front of ourselves, we've got an afternoon of live instrumental Jazz music from 4pm today (Sunday 16th) with the exotic 'Domingo Caramelo'

Next Saturday, 22nd August (my birthday treat 🎂) is the amazing 80s band 'Shoot The Glass', then we've got The Renegades back on Friday the 28th.

The Buttery is the festival that isn't a festival. Amazing bands, stunning location, great food & drink, camping next door ⛺️

This will be a summer to tell your future grandchildren about. But you don't need to wait until then, we are children friendly and have a brilliant children's adventure play area, so bring the grandchildren along as well!
