We have made a little something for fellow scone enthusiasts.

Our new **North Coast Scone Experience** booklet introduces our full scone collection, from classic and savoury favourites to our speciality, vegan and gluten-free scones.

Pick one up next time you visit. Keep it as a little memento of your time in Lynton, or use it as a cheeky checklist for planning what to try next.

How many have you already ticked off? 🥰

A little September update from us both.

We’ll be closed on Sundays for the rest of September: the 13th, 20th and 27th.

It’s been a busy summer, and our North Coast After Six evenings have been amazing. Cocktails, wine, lots of laughs, chilled music and great people. We’ve loved spending those evenings with you.

With just the two of us, we’re making a little room for baking, experimenting with new dishes and having a breather too. Maybe even a long-forgotten Sunday roast!

Thank you for keeping us so busy and making the café such a lovely place to be. We’ll look forward to seeing you on our open days, whether it’s for a morning coffee or a glass of something After Six.

The Grasshopper. Basically, dessert in a glass.

This is another one we’ve been playing around with recently, and it’s definitely earned its place on our cocktail menu.

It’s an old New Orleans classic, made with crème de menthe, crème de cacao and double cream. So think mint, chocolate and cream, shaken until it’s properly cold, smooth and ridiculously indulgent.

We make ours with Green Crème de Menthe and Tempus Fugit Crème de Cacao, a luxurious chocolate liqueur we’ve become rather fond of.

Is it sophisticated or complex? Not remotely.

Is it delicious? Absolutely!

And there’s something wonderfully nostalgic about it for me. It takes me straight back to my days working at the Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes.

Not a "Bag's Ball" night, perhaps, but definitely one of the rather more elegant dinner dances. Probably a Masonic-type do, like a ‘Ladies Night’, where I had the pleasure of serving some real glamour pu***es in very posh frocks.

Anyway, I digress ... it’s cool, creamy, chocolatey, minty and gloriously retro.

Some cocktails belong to an era. This is definitely one of them for me.

The Bifteki Hog is on the menu now. It's a Greek classic. Gone full Hog!!

Bifteki is a Greek-style seasoned beef patty, often flavoured with herbs and sometimes stuffed with feta.

Our version takes that idea and makes it a little more North Coast Café.

Two seasoned Devon beef patties, an outrageous amount of melted cheddar, onions, classic Greek-inspired seasoning and oregano, all packed into a hot grilled bagel. And hidden in the middle is a pocket of feta that softens into the cheddar as everything grills together.

It’s rich, beefy, herby and outrageously cheesy … and definitely not for the fainthearted.

Probably the most filling and satisfying Hog we’ve made yet! 🥰Nom nom🐽!

The Water Lily. Simple, yet surprisingly complex.

Gin, Cointreau, Crème de Violette and fresh lemon. Four ingredients in equal measure, creating something absolutely beguiling.

A little sweet. A little floral. A little sharp.

Violet hues, a silvery shimmer, citrus freshness and delicate florals, all coming together in one beautifully elegant cocktail.

The Water Lily! Unusual, intriguing, and rather difficult to forget. A bit like me huh 🤔😂

Meet our new Emotional Support Fridge.

Some people have an emotional support water bottle. We have gone slightly further.

Our new wine fridge is now full of delightful and properly chilled white wines, rosés and even a few reds that enjoy life on the cooler side.

Inside, you will find our dependable house wines, including Tempus Two Sauvignon Blanc, our easy-drinking Pinot Grigio and the fragrant, gently off-dry Willowglen Gewürztraminer Riesling.

There are guest favourites such as the wonderfully coastal Gotas de Mar Albariño, Villa Blanche Picpoul de Pinet and our pale, dry Villa Blanche Grenache Rosé.

Then there are the wines that arrived because our curiosity got the better of us. Gikas Assyrtiko from near Athens, Arthur Metz Riesling from Alsace, Dolianova Prendas Vermentino from Sardinia and a wonderfully light Sicilian Frappato that is particularly lovely served slightly chilled.

There is something from crisp and very dry to softer, fruitier and gently off-dry.

Some are available by the glass. Some are bottles for sharing. A few are fleeting Discovery Wines that may disappear once the last bottle has been enjoyed.

The fridge may be just hours old, but somehow we've already nearly filled it! How did that happen??

Anyhoo, if too much choice makes you freeze, tell us what you usually enjoy, or what you are eating, and we will happily point you towards the right wine.

No wine knowledge required. Curiosity is more than enough.

Emotional support, North Coast Café style 🥰😘🤣

Before the scones, before the evening cocktails, there was coffee.

Coffee has always been at the heart of our little café on Queen Street.

We’re proud to serve coffee roasted here in Devon by Voyager Coffee. Behind the counter we have three Voyager coffees available, each freshly ground to order:

☕ Coast to Coast
A smooth, balanced house coffee. An easy-drinking coffee for any time of day.

☕ Trailblaze
A richer roast. Fuller and deeper, for those who prefer a more intense cup.

☕ Sugarcane Decaf
Because choosing decaf shouldn’t mean compromising. A proper coffee, freshly ground just like the others.

Three coffees. Three choices. One standard.
Exceptional coffee, made properly, here at North Coast Café 🥰

(And ... I'm sure there is space on that counter for another grinder!)

Something new is coming out of the North Coast Café kitchen.

Devon beef. Greek thinking. Properly cheesy.

Two smash-style Devon beef patties, melted cheddar, hidden feta, chopped onions and a little Greek-inspired seasoning, all tucked into a hot grilled bagel.

It’s rich, beefy, ridiculously cheesy, and built for making a Greek hog of yourself.

The Bifteki Hog is coming soon!

Apple crumble. Clotted cream. Handmade apple & fig compote.

Neal's Apple Crumble Scone has become a real fan favourite, and we can see why.

It's a soft, fruity scone, with a proper crumble topping, and is served with clotted cream and Neal’s handmade apple and fig compote on the side.

And the smell is half the fun.

They smell amazing while they’re baking, and then you get it all over again when someone breaks one open at the table and that warm apple, spice and buttery crumble aroma drifts through the café.

Even if you didn’t order one, chances are you’ll know when someone else has!

A little heads-up for the end of August.

We’ll be taking a short break and North Coast Cafe will be closed from Friday 28th August to Monday 31st August.

We’ll reopen as usual on Tuesday 1st September.

We’re open as normal up to and including Thursday 27th August, so there’s still plenty of time for coffee, scones, lunch and a glass of something good before we disappear for a few days.

Best wishes
Jason & Neal
