The Grasshopper. Basically, dessert in a glass.
This is another one we’ve been playing around with recently, and it’s definitely earned its place on our cocktail menu.
It’s an old New Orleans classic, made with crème de menthe, crème de cacao and double cream. So think mint, chocolate and cream, shaken until it’s properly cold, smooth and ridiculously indulgent.
We make ours with Green Crème de Menthe and Tempus Fugit Crème de Cacao, a luxurious chocolate liqueur we’ve become rather fond of.
Is it sophisticated or complex? Not remotely.
Is it delicious? Absolutely!
And there’s something wonderfully nostalgic about it for me. It takes me straight back to my days working at the Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes.
Not a "Bag's Ball" night, perhaps, but definitely one of the rather more elegant dinner dances. Probably a Masonic-type do, like a ‘Ladies Night’, where I had the pleasure of serving some real glamour pu***es in very posh frocks.
Anyway, I digress ... it’s cool, creamy, chocolatey, minty and gloriously retro.
Some cocktails belong to an era. This is definitely one of them for me.
