To Georgia for spending the week making everything looks gorgeous, ensuring each place has everything needed even though her heads mashed with the late additions, those seating but not eating, those only eating dessert and those who may or may not come later 🤯 🤣... she's definitely hitting the w**e later 😂

MIKE.TOPS.THE.LEAGUE
🌱🚜🌱🚜🌱🚜🌱🚜
Cricket is just one section here at Newton Sports club & over 80 cricket matches have been played this year on the ground from tiny U9s right through to professional cricketers from Lancashire CC.

Preparing an outfield, square and wickets isn’t just mowing grass and rolling — it’s a tad more technical & open to criticism from every angle.
This year, the weather has been unhelpful Heavy rain at the start of the season, zero for the majority and biblical rain at the end ☀️🌪🌩🌧

Then there’s the commentary team .....
The lappers who stroll round the boundary offering their expert verdict despite ditching their grass at home for artificial 🙈

The ones who wander onto the square and start stroking the grass like some sort of Grass Whisperer 🌱 🤷‍♂️

And the parent who insists their little cricketer would’ve scored more if the wicket was better — despite the fact they don’t know a thing about cricket and are only here for the Aperol spritz. 🤦 🍹

Blocking out all that noise & getting on with the job — is a skill in itself.😂
Most clubs have a grounds team.
We don’t.
We have a Mike 💪

And we’re absolutely delighted to share that his work has been formally recognised by the ECB Liverpool & District Premier League 🙌
Mike topped the table for the Best Ground in the League.
He scored highest for Ground Condition Markings across the whole of the 2026 season
Outfield quality — look & consistency💪
Ground surrounds — the overall presentation of the facility 👊
Grass length — prepared to professional standards 💪
Markings — clarity, accuracy & finish👊
General feel — the intangible “this is a proper ground” factor 💪

It’s a huge achievement, and one that reflects countless early mornings, late nights, weather battles, and the kind of pride you can’t teach.

Mike doesn’t just prepare a cricket ground — he prepares this cricket ground.
And this year he's consistently prepared the best one in the league .
