IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
NEWTON HIGH STREET HUB
Please be advised that, at a Special General Meeting of the Committee of the Newton High Street Hub held on Wednesday 17th July 2019, it was unanimously agreed to cease any future activities/events and proceed with a winding-up and dissolution of the said Community Group and its remaining assets.
This decision has not been taken lightly but has become increasingly necessary due to a combination of reasons:
1. The rising costs associated with running our two major annual events – May Food & Craft Festival and December Christmas Market – Licenses, Insurances, Safety Barriers, Traffic Management Fees etc.
2. Difficulty in achieving sufficient support, contributions/donations and general assistance from parts of the wider business community.
Even Raffle Prizes and the income they generate from the draws can make such a crucial difference between an event covering its own costs or running at a loss.
3. The Committee Members’ own Personal, Family and Business needs, commitments and time constraints.
4. Uncertainty as to the future availability of some of the areas that have previously been used for the siting of stalls and attractions for our two main events.
Whilst we do appreciate that many local businesses, stallholders, exhibitors and members of our community have been extremely generous and supportive towards our 8 major events over the last 4 years, we do however feel that some also take them very much for granted, expect them to just simply happen, then reap the benefits on the day without any real contribution or effort in return.
Should any individuals, groups or businesses wish to continue with any of these events or activities in the future, we would be more than happy to assist them with the knowledge, experience and contacts that we have gained over the last few years.
Since the Newton High Street Hub will no longer exist in its present form we intend to close our Website, page & Bank Account. Any residual funds will be donated to local charities or community projects in due course, at the discretion of the Committee.
The WhatsApp group will however remain open, but under the new name of Newton Business Group, for the benefit of communication and networking between our local businesses; whether High Street based or otherwise.
Whilst we are obviously saddened at having to reach this decision, we are nevertheless extremely proud of what we have achieved for this community, along with the appreciation, support and feedback we have received from many of them in return.
This would also include our success in raising funds for the following worthwhile causes over the last couple of years;
Newton Community Centre - £500
The Walter Urwin Locomotive Project - £500
Manchester Arena Emergency Appeal Fund - £700
………..Thank you!
We wish you all the very best of success for the future.
Kevin, Julie, Aimee, Gareth, Sharon & Louise.
