The Black Horse in Monkseaton
originated in 1793 as a two-storey stone building, which was later modified to include a third floor. The building still standing today, a familiar design in the centre of Monkseaton, was constructed on the same site and completed in 1952. Key Dates in the History of The Black Horse:

1793: The original Black Horse Inn is built. Late 1800s/Early 1900s: The pub was

also known as the Sportsman's Arms and served as an accommodation for travelers.
1936: The Monkseaton Urban District Council grants permission for the demolition of the original building, allowing the current structure to be built on the site.
1952: The new Black Horse Hotel is built.
2022: The pub reopens following a significant refurbishment, re-establishing itself as a focal point for the community.
