After a lot of thought and consideration, I’ve made the difficult decision to hand in my notice at The Flintlock.

For nearly two years, I’ve had the privilege of running this pub, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. We’ve shared some fantastic times together, built a great community, and created memories that I’ll always be proud of.

Unfortunately, with the recent increases in costs, including the additional VAT pressures on the industry, it has become increasingly difficult to make the business work in a way that provides a sustainable wage for the number of hours required. As much as I love what I do, the reality is that right now it simply doesn’t make financial sense for me to continue.

This hasn’t been an easy decision. I care deeply about this pub, our amazing staff, and every customer who has supported us along the way. The Flintlock has never just been a business to me – it’s been a community, and that’s what makes this so hard.

The good news is that I’m not disappearing anywhere. I still have a few months left here, and the plan is for the pub to be passed on to new owners who will hopefully continue everything that makes The Flintlock special. I’ll do everything I can to help make that transition a success.

I’m only 27, so who knows what the future holds. I certainly wouldn’t rule out owning pubs again one day. But for now, this feels like the right decision, and it’s time for me to take a different path.

The Flintlock will always be my local, and you’ll still see me around. I’ll be supporting the new owners however I can and cheering the pub on long after I’ve handed over the keys.

Most importantly, thank you. Thank you to every member of staff, every regular, every occasional visitor, every supplier, every musician, every sports team, and everyone who has walked through the doors and helped make this place what it is. Your support has meant more than you’ll ever know.

We’ve still got a few months together, so let’s make the most of them. Let’s continue to support The Flintlock, enjoy it as a community, and give it the send-off it deserves. Let’s finish on a high and create a few more great memories together.
