Whighams Wine Cellars was opened in August 1983, on the site of early 19th century cellars, in the basement of a private residence in Charlotte Square, situated in Edinburgh's city’s Georgian New Town. Over the past 25 years, Whighams has grown to become a leading wine bar and restaurant in Scotland's capital city - regularly winning awards, and frequented by local city dwellers as well as visitors from all over the world. Wines, champagnes and real ales are served in authentic and relaxing surroundings. With over 150 seats, it is possible to enjoy a meal or snack at any time of day or evening, choosing from menus which are freshly prepared in our kitchens by our experienced team of chefs. Fresh produce from land and sea are sourced daily and seafood is our speciality.

Some things earn their place on the menu. Our Cullen Skink is one of them.

A proper Scottish classic with smoked haddock, potatoes, leek, onion and cream, finished with crispy potato skins and chive oil. Served with artisan sourdough and butter, just as it should be.

A familiar favourite for many of our regulars, and one we’re rather proud of.

We’ve been working with Mellis Cheese for longer than we can remember, so it was rather lovely to have the people behind this much loved Edinburgh business in with us today.

The team spent the afternoon learning all about the cheese. How it’s made, how to cut it properly, how to serve it, and all those little details that make a difference when someone asks us what they should order.

Then we brought w**e into the equation. We tasted our way through the cheeses with a few bottles alongside them, finding some delicious pairings along the way. A few were unexpected and a few made perfect sense.

We’d say that’s a pretty good afternoon.🍷🧀
