HAS PRAWN STAR INSPIRED YOUR ART? 🎨🦐
We’re starting a new series celebrating the people who see Prawn Star a little differently — as a source of inspiration, a Cairns icon, or simply a place worth capturing.
And you don’t have to be a professional artist to be part of it.
Whether you draw, paint, take photos, create digital art, sketch, sculpt — or have your own unique way of capturing Prawn Star — we want to see it!
Our first feature is Cameron Hamilton, a Cairns local for 57 years.
Cameron creates incredibly detailed ink drawings of local icons, carefully drawn to scale, with one colour chosen to stand out.
For Prawn Star, it was our blue rub rails. 💙
His art also has a beautiful personal story. For 18 years, Cameron’s drawings helped his son, who has severe dyslexia, prepare for school presentations — turning his topics into illustrations that helped him communicate with confidence.
We love that Prawn Star has become one of the Cairns icons captured through Cameron’s eyes.
