Today we celebrate the heart and soul behind what makes Clean Slate feel like home - Chef Melissa.

From jambalaya and curry grilled cheese sandwiches to unforgettable crab cakes and dishes as unique as rabbit sauce piquante or alligator xiao long bao, her creativity never ceases to amaze me. She pours her heart into every dish.

I get to see it all - the long days in the kitchen, afternoons at the market, mornings spent menu planning, late nights cleaning. This is love. Love of her craft and love for all of us.

If you’ve ever felt welcomed here, looked forward to coming here, laughed while sitting at the bar, walked away full or at least just a little happier than when you arrived, well, that’s because of Chef Melissa.

Please join me in wishing Melissa a very happy birthday. I’m incredibly lucky to have her in my life, our boys are lucky to have such a strong and dedicated woman as their mother, and I’m sure you would all agree that we’re lucky to have her in our community.

Just make sure to get out of her way when she needs something from the reach-in refrigerator.

Curry Night returns tonight at Clean Slate Wine Bar.

After a difficult week and a few days away, we’re reopening the doors and getting the pots going again.

Thank you all for the kindness, messages, notes, and support you’ve shown our family. It has meant so much to us.

Tonight, we’re serving up our made-from-scratch curries, pouring wine, and settling back into the rhythm of the little wine bar we love.

We open at 4 pm. Come hungry.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women who show up every day with love, strength, patience, and care. Today we celebrate you.

This Mother’s Day is especially emotional for us, as Chef Melissa suddenly lost her mom last week. The outpouring of love and support from this community has been overwhelming in the best possible way.

Thank you to everyone who has called, texted, emailed, sent messages, or quietly slid notes through the door at the wine bar. Every kind word has meant more than we can properly express.

We’re closed today and tomorrow as we spend time with family, but we’ll reopen Tuesday for Curry Night.

We are incredibly fortunate to live and work in such a caring community, and we are deeply thankful for all of you who have reached out to show your love and support.
