A wine giant just bought the Phony Negroni. It is the sixth non-alcoholic brand a conglomerate has absorbed in roughly four years.
 
The labels are different. The colors are different. The cap table is not.
 
The interesting question isn’t whether non-alcoholic will keep growing. It will. The question is what the shelf will taste like in 2030, when the names on it mostly belong to the same companies that own the alcohol two aisles over.

If the people fighting reform of the ADA were actually worried about disabled people being unable to access public spaces, the New York City subway would be accessible by now. It isn’t. Thirty-five years in, and 30 years more to go.

The iced tea menu doubled.
 
Four Bellocq pours:
Peony Peach. White peony, summer peach, dusky lavender.
Tangerine Turmeric. Citrus and turmeric, layered with chamomile, fennel, and vanilla. Classic Court. Full-bodied black with sun-baked depth and a wisp of smoke. Hibiscus Moroccan Rose. Hibiscus with blood orange and Moroccan rose.
 
Want it functional? Add a focus or calm blend.

The trend is real. The framing on top of it flattens two completely different stories. One works. The other is a marketing fantasy.

There’s a lot that makes us different from other brands.
 
It’s not just the fact that we use real ingredients as opposed to mixing and matching extracts and picking a flavor.
It’s not just the fact that we have an actual bar where we test everything and get real feedback from people before we bottle it.
Or the fact that we aim to create drinks that stand on their own, not a lesser version of something else.
 
Our drinks are not one size fits all. In the beginning, we felt like everything blurred together, and that didn’t work for us.
So we went deeper into what made each one different.
Agave Phantom got smokier.
Island Echo got more tropical.
Amber Dream leaned harder into warmth and spice.
Visions of Ruby got more bitter.
 
 
We don’t expect you to love them all. But one of them will be your favorite drink ever.

85 degrees today. We’ve put the coat rack away at least five times this spring. Dragged it to the back, brought it out, dragged it back again. Every time we think it’s over, the city gives us one more 40-degree morning just to keep us honest.
 
So we’re not making any announcements. We’re just raising a glass while we can.
 
If this is actually it, we’ll celebrate properly. If it’s not, at least we had today.
