Some w**e stories begin long before the first bottle is opened.
Growing up in Napa Valley, best friends Mac Watson and Kirk Venge were surrounded by w**emaking from an early age. Both sons of highly acclaimed w**emakers, (Ana Macauley Watson and Nils Venge) they followed that influence into careers of their own—earning respect and accolades along the way.
In 2001, when Mac took over his family’s estate, the two longtime friends finally had the opportunity to work together. Kirk joined Mac on the w**emaking side, while Mac built relationships with some of Napa and Sonoma’s most celebrated vineyards.
The result is Macaulay Vineyards—small-production w**es sourced from extraordinary sites, including the famed To Kalon Vineyard at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, the coveted Star Vineyard in Rutherford, and Bacigalupi Vineyard, whose Chardonnay played a historic role in California w**e’s triumph at the 1976 Judgment of Paris.
Robert Parker, Jr. perhaps said it best:
“This small estate’s production is limited, but these w**es merit attention.”
