First Friday Artist Spotlight ๐จ
Rachel Hertzman is a painter and multidisciplinary creative based in Flagstaff whose work explores the intersection of landscape, memory, and emotion through both abstraction and watercolor. Her abstract paintings are inspired by the push and pull between the expansive landscapes of the American West and the energy and structure of urban environments, using layered textures, intuitive mark-making, and expressive color to capture emotional atmosphere rather than direct representation.
Alongside her abstract practice, Hertzman creates watercolor travel journals and architectural studies, documenting meaningful places through quick, observational paintings. Her watercolor series Iconic Flagstaff celebrates the charm, history, and architecture of downtown Flagstaff through a slightly abstract lens and has been featured in local exhibitions and rotating displays throughout the community.
Hertzman received her BFA in Painting and Art History from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts and currently works from her home studio just outside Flagstaff.
