Last night, members of the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club attended the quarterly Robson Ranch Kiwanis Club Trivia Night, and a great time was had by all.

Trivia night is always a good reminder that you can learn a lot about your fellow club members when the questions start flying. Some were easy, and some were definitely challenging.

For example:

What serum was delivered by sled dog in 1925?

Which President had a parrot that cursed so much it had to be removed from his funeral?

Those were just a couple of the questions that kept everyone thinking, laughing, and guessing.

But the best part of the evening was not just the trivia. It was the fellowship, the conversation, and the time spent with friends. That is a big part of what it means to be a Kiwanian: serving our community, building friendships, and enjoying the people we serve alongside.

Thank you to the Robson Ranch Kiwanis Club for hosting another great evening!

Some people might look at it and think it’s a little crazy.

Out in the heat of summer, picking up trash for the Kiwanis Adopt-A-Spot…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Standing side by side with the Denton High School Key Club, planting nearly 3,000 flags for a 9/11 Memorial…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Spending a full Saturday going from store to store making sure kids have coats so they won’t be cold this winter…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Covered in sawdust, sanding, drilling, building beds with my Kiwanis brothers and sisters so no child has to sleep on the floor…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Called to serve.
Called to show up.
Called to do the work that needs to be done—whether anyone notices or not.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” — Matthew 25:40

So if it looks a little different… if it doesn’t make sense to everyone…

That’s alright.

I’m not crazy.
I’m called.

Yesterday was one of those mornings that reminds you exactly why we do what we do.

The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club was honored to award scholarships to 13 outstanding Key Club seniors from high schools across Denton. These young men and women have already demonstrated a profound commitment to leadership, service, and the "service-above-self" mindset that defines our community.

Each scholarship is more than just financial support; it is a strategic investment in the next generation of leaders who have already proven they are willing to step up for their neighbors.

A Community Effort
Success like this doesn't happen in a vacuum. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the "village" that helps these students thrive:

To the Parents: Thank you for your endless support and for raising young adults who value character and community.

To the Faculty Sponsors: We appreciate your tireless work within the schools to provide a platform for these students to lead.

To our Kiwanis Advisors: Thank you for your mentorship and for bridges you build between our club and the next generation.

To Our Recipients
You’ve earned this through years of hard work and genuine dedication. We are incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished so far, and we truly look forward to seeing the impact you will continue to make in the years ahead.

This is how we build a stronger Denton—one servant leader at a time.

Our Denton Breakfast Kiwanis family is saddened to share the passing of longtime member Norm Puckett, who served faithfully in our club from 2009 to 2025.

Many of us will remember Norm as the friendly face who ran our weekly lottery with consistency, humor, and a sense of duty that embodied what it means to be a Kiwanian. Norm stepped away from the club due to health challenges, but his impact and presence remained with us.

We honor his years of service, his dedication to the children of Denton, and the steady reliability he brought to every Wednesday morning meeting. He will be deeply missed.

Visitation:
📅 Saturday, 9:00 AM
📍 Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home on Locust St., Denton

Service:
📅 Saturday, 10:00 AM
📍 Same location

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him. Norm served with kindness and commitment—and we are grateful for the many years he spent making our club stronger.

May he rest in peace.

This morning, members of the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club delivered all 48 coats to Nette Shultz Elementary. We met with Mrs. Scanlan, who provides the list each year, and Principal Preston, who helps coordinate the distribution to the students. These coats will now go directly to the children who need them most.

Every coat we purchased was made possible by the proceeds from our club’s one major fundraiser—the Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally. Community support for this event allows us to continue projects like this year after year.

The 43rd Annual Turkey Roll takes place this Saturday at Denton High School. When you ride, volunteer, or spread the word, you help us serve kids right here in Denton—just like the students at Nette Shultz.

Thank you to everyone who supports our work. Together, we’re making a real difference in our community.

Each year, our club works with Nette Shultz Elementary to make sure every child who needs a warm coat has one. This week, we received a list of 48 coats, and our members went to work—driving to six different Walmarts across the area to gather every size requested.

We want to extend a special thank-you to the Walmart in Cross Roads. For the second year in a row, their team went above and beyond for the children of Nette Shultz. This year, Manager Ayoud assigned Fabiana to assist us, and she didn’t hesitate to jump in—checking the floor, searching the back room, and helping us track down every coat they had available.

On top of that, Ayoud generously provided a $50 gift card to help offset the total cost. Their support made a real difference today.

While we couldn’t find all 48 coats at a single store, the Cross Roads team showed true commitment to helping our community. We appreciate their kindness, hard work, and partnership in helping keep Denton kids warm this winter.

Thank you, Ayoud and Fabiana—and thank you to all our members who made the coat drive possible again this year. Kiwanis truly is all about serving the children of the world, one act of kindness at a time.
