Our next wine dinner requires little introduction.

First made in 1982, Te Mata Estate’s flagship Cabernet blend is widely regarded as New Zealand’s greatest red wine - the closest thing this country has to a First Growth.

For two nights only, The Wine Room becomes home to an extraordinary Coleraine retrospective. Eleven vintages, spanning a quarter of a century, from 1999 through to the current 2024 release - poured side by side, the way a wine like this deserves to be understood.

With just twenty seats each night, this is as intimate as it gets. A rare chance to sit down with one of New Zealand’s most storied wines and the winemakers behind it.

This recognition is so well deserved and reflects the passion, dedication, and countless hours João has invested in his craft.

If you’ve joined us at The Wine Room on one of the three nights he’s on the floor each week, you’ll know exactly why we’re so lucky to have him. His knowledge is exceptional, but it’s his warm, genuine service that makes the difference. Whether he’s guiding you to the perfect bottle, sharing a story behind a wine, or helping you discover something completely new, João has a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome and excited to taste something new.

Behind the scenes, he’s just as generous.. always sharing his knowledge with the team, encouraging us to keep learning, and bringing a bright energy wherever he goes.
