There is some speculation regarding the origin of the Golden Retriever, with the original building pre-dating planning legislation. It is believed that the original site was a foresters cottage, dating back before 1841. The building was later developed into dog-kennels (explaining the name 'Golden Retriever'), whilst retaining its traditional farm-house style. A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
