🍺 Happy St Crispin's Day! 🍺
As it's St Crispin's Day today, I thought I'd share a little bit of history about our lovely old pub and how it got its name.
St Crispin, whose feast day is celebrated on 25th October, is the patron saint of shoemakers, which brings us nicely to the history of The Crispin.
Many years ago, our building was owned by a gentleman called James Green, who started out as a shoemaker before becoming a brewer and b**r seller.
It's believed that the pub became known as The Crispin because of James's connection to the shoemaking trade and its patron saint.
So there you go, a little bit of Wokingham history that you might not have known!
I love that our little pub has such a long history, and that all these years later it's still doing what it was intended to do – serving a decent pint and bringing people together.
Happy St Crispin's Day from all of us at The Crispin! 🍻
