🍄‍🟫 Wild Mushroom & Goats Cheese - Garlic roasted wild mushrooms, goat’s cheese, caramelised onion, truffle oil, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🐑 Harissa Lamb- Goats cheese, tomato, pomegranate seeds, mint yogurt drizzle, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🧀 Margherita - Fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🍖 The Railway Meat Feast - Pepperoni, chorizo, nduja, jalapenos, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🥵 Chorizo & Hot Honey - Spanish chorizo, roasted red peppers, chilli-infused honey, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🍕 Pepperoni - Crisped pepperoni, oregano, DOP sauce, mozzarella

All served with San Marzano Tomato Sauce, Fior di Latte Mozzarella & Garlic and herb dip 🇮🇹

We’ve got the facilities for takeaway, so if you want to eat one in and take the other home thats fine by us. We’re still ironing out the details on pizzas but they look and taste magnifico, and they’ll only be getting better with practise 💪

Deliveries might be in the pipeline too 🤐

A note on upcoming road closures 🛑

As you may know, a section of the A334 will be closed next weekend because some genius built the new road into the Botley bypass a metre too high. The current mini roundabout (outside pinkmead car wash) will have to be raised (I guess?) which means getting from Botley to Curdridge will require a trip around the world. Shortcuts are also being closed to stop the back roads getting jammed.

Pedestrian and cycle access is still available, and we’ve been told access is still fine from the East (Wickham or Bishops Waltham way). The info from the website states:

Friday 22 May – Monday 25 May

From 9pm on Friday 22 May, both the A3051 (YMCA Fairthorne to A334) and the A334 (Sherecroft Way to Hilson Road) will be closed to traffic.
The A334 will reopen at 6am on Monday 25 May to all traffic via a temporary new road layout.
A signed diversion will be in place throughout the closure.

Monday 25 May – Monday 1 June

A section of the A3051 (YMCA Fairthorne to A334) will remain closed and will reopen at 6am on Monday 1 June.

A signed diversion route will be in place, this will differ from the first diversion to utilise the A334.

So yeah, total nightmare. We’re preparing for a quiet weekend as this essentially isolates us from half of the world, but we’re still open in case you find yourself on the east side!

And while we’re talking closures, we’ll be closed Monday- Wednesday next week to accommodate Wickham Horse Fair. We have some maintenance and refurb bits we’ll be completing in the time, so we’ll see you all when things start opening up again 😘

First chunk of our refurb done ✅

Took a little longer than we’d have liked and the garden is still rolling on but the interior is good enough to share, so here she is in all her glory 🤩

The whole way through wondering if we’d made the right decisions, worrying what everyone would think, did we take it too far, almost put us in hospital with anxiety. But now the rubble is cleared, candles are back on and food is flowing, we must say it looks shonkin beautiful 🤗

Now, back to business. New drink and food menu out later this week. Going to go hard on the loadeds, burgers, tacos and pizza/flatbreads, so watch out for new items dropping soon and we’ll post the finished article when it’s here 🍔

Huuuuge thank you to everyone who came to paint, tile, brick, dig and install during the refurb. And to all of our team who have helped cleaning and arranging to get us back to normal, we couldn’t have done it without you 🫶

And if you’ve been in to see us since we reopened, thank you for the kind words, they mean everything (a lady said she liked the floor tiles earlier and I cried), and to those who haven’t popped by yet, you’re in for a treat 😘

Thanks for bearing with us guys, we made it 😮‍💨❤️

This winter/spring we have a big pub refurb in the works, and we’re looking for local recommendations for the following:

🖌️ Interior & exterior painting and decorating
🪏 Landscape gardeners - patio, hedge and grass removal
🧵 Upholsterers - many, many chairs
🪑 Furniture - large booth seating construction with upholstery

If you know anyone who may be interested in some work, please send this post their way or tag them below!

We’ll be completing the work over the next few months so we can remain open, and we’ll share the progress as it marches on. The Rialway will be recognisable but updated; same tasty menus, same friendly service, but with a revamped interior and garden 😁

Thanks in advance for any recs! ❤️

You guys are THE BEST ❤️

Our first try with To Good To Go went down a treat, with 55 meals sold in just 45 minutes 🤯

To put that into perspective, that’s:

5kg beef and pork
10 litres red cabbage
30 carrots
2kg parsnip purée
80 potatoes
& 55 yorkies

that we didn’t have to throw away 🤗

And most importantly, that’s £220 raised on day one. Every spare penny will be going to charity, and we’ll keep track and update you on the total at the end of the month.

A massive thank you to everyone who got involved yesterday. We’d love to know what you thought of the roasts, how we can improve them and whether you’re happy with the amount you got for the money.

Hopefully we’ll have more this weekend, so check the app at around 18:30 on Sunday to see what we have available this time round 💪

These flatbreads, without doubt the biggest hit on the new menu 😛

Pictured above:

🐽 Slow Cooked BBQ Pulled Pork
🐄 Chimichurri Flat Iron Steak
🐓 Chargrilled Chicken Caesar
🧀 Pesto Burrata

All available 12-3pm, with the Steak, Burrata and Caesar available in the evening too. Add fries and salad for £5 to make it a meal 🥗

We’ll try to get a couple of these on the Sunday menu throughout the summer alongside the roasts too 🫡

We have no idea how this’ll go, but we never will until we try. It’s honestly painful having to throw away good food at the end of every Sunday, and though we try, we never get through what’s left during the next week before it spoils.

So, we’ll post on our story at around 6:15 what we’ve got. Just message us here or on Facebook to let us know what you’d like and what time you’ll be here, and we’ll keep it in the fridge until you arrive. We’ll post when we’re out as it’ll be first come first serve.

It might be 3 meals, it might be 30; it’ll depend entirely on the day. Stuff like potatoes and greens will need to be cooked at home (though the pots will be marinaded ready), and you may have to supply the gravy. But the meat, yorkies, and rest of the veg will just need to be reheated in oven or microwave.

The pictures above are all from lockdown deliveries and our school meal delivery times, so the veg will be slightly different, but as those of you who have been over the past year will know, it’s all beautiful, tasty and fresh.

Anyway, hopefully this helps some of you guys out a little bit. We know it’s brutal out there right now, so if this can alleviate just a little bit of that, while also reducing what we have to throw away, it’ll be worth the aggro ❤️

❄️ CHRISTMAS TIME ❄️

That time of year again, and we’re here for it! Below is our December Main Menu in all its festive glory, and it’s available now 😋

🍾 CHRISTMAS PARTIES 🍾
Our Christmas Party Menu is running alongside this one (on the website), which requires a booking and preorder. Just choose this option when you book online and you’ll receive an email with a link to send your preorder over, but do give us a call if you need any assistance.

📋 DEPOSITS 📋
Rather than taking deposits this year, our booking system will ask you to enter your card details when you make a booking online. This is to safeguard against no shows during our busiest period. If you book a table and do not attend without letting us know, a £10pp charge will be made to your card. If you do need to cancel just give us a call or message to let us know and we’ll cancel for you.

🎄 CHRISTMAS PERIOD 🎄
We are open on Christmas Day this year, but we are already fully booked for diners. Christmas Eve will be food until 6pm on the main menu, while Boxing Day will be a Sunday style roast menu (with a few other bits) until 4pm. These days always fill up so best to book early to avoid missing out!

Apart from that it’s business as usual here at The Railway. We are already filling up with large parties throughout the month, so do try to book early if you’d like to visit for the festive menu this December. This is the month our pub comes into its own, and we’d love to see you here if you haven’t had the opportunity to visit before. We’re already decked out and ready for the hungry hordes, so we’ll look forward to welcoming you all in from the cold for some winter warmers and good times! 🎅🎄🍷
