Life lately at TPB 🤎

1. Our Denton slow-braised beef, staying firmly on the menu. A true ‘estate to plate’ hero — White Park beef, estate greens, foraged pesto… and it’s delicious too.
2. Lighter evenings, allowing for longer looks across those Wharfe Valley views.
3. New wine menu alert. Wines selected by our GM Colin — natural, sustainable and organic, and very drinkable with bar snacks on the terrace too.
4. Plenty of nooks and booths to settle into over long lunches.
5. Our cork extension has weathered beautifully over winter, and we love its juxtaposition against the old Yorkshire brick.
6. Walled garden side salad, always a winner — and at least 3 of your 5 a day.
7. Homemade gnocchi with Yorkshire asparagus, ricotta and walled garden tomatoes.
8. New cocktail, crafted by Colin — introducing our Rosemary Gimlet, finished with Joe’s garnishing skills.
9. Cocktails on the terrace, anyone?
10. We’ve always got a good stash of games to keep both big kids and little kids happy too.
11. You know you can just pop in for coffee? Always with too.
12. As the weather gets better, we’re the perfect place to end up after a lovely countryside stomp.
13. We’ve recently added signs to the doors to encourage guests to avoid entering and exiting through the back door. It helps keep the warmth, atmosphere, and flow of the restaurant just right for everyone.

Got any plans this Easter?

With a four-day weekend ahead, it’s the perfect time to slow down, get outside and settle in for a long lunch or supper at The Penny Bun.

We have a few tables still available across the weekend, along with a room (if you're quick!) for those looking to stay a little longer.

We'll see you there.

We’ve been busy curating and updating our wine list to bring a more interesting and exciting selection to the table.

And with the excellent sunshine we’ve been having we’re convinced we’ve found the perfect ones for sipping & easy drinking on the terrace.

The new wines are right up our street. And yours hopefully! The new selection includes organic, sustainable, biodynamic, natural but most importantly very drinkable!

One of our new fav’s is the Portuguese Raza, a Vinho Verde Branco. Classically spritzy & the perfect summer tipple.

See you on the terrace?

As February rolls on we’ve noticed a glimmer of lighter evenings and the promise of milder weather. Then just as quickly it’s grey, sleet and cold.

That said, we have lots to look forward to. A busy valentines weekend this week and new plots & plans for more produce in the walled garden is underway. New plates with ingredients that reflect the seasons are taking shape.

We’re embracing winter here at the inn, and staying cosy because the good times are here and now. (But we can’t wait until we can open our terrace again! )

It’s very much business as usual for us over the next few weeks.

Even if road signs suggest closures due to Yorkshire Water works around Askwith, we are open as normal.

We’d just recommend allowing an extra 5 minutes for your journey if you can.
As always, we truly appreciate your support. 🤎

Do January your way…🤎

We’re moving quietly through the month — plots and plans are afoot, and we’re looking back so we can look forward.

Our rooms offer the chance to cocoon and hide away until you’re ready to change gear again. Space to think, to rest, and to remember that January is actually an opportunity to reset and realign.

Alone (solo travel is having a moment) or with your favourite sleeping buddy… our five rooms are ready to give you the January boost you need.

January is for reflection, resetting and perhaps a little refresh too.

So we’re busy doing just that here at the Penny Bun. We’re looking at our menu, to ensure we keep it simple but always evolving, experimenting and growing. We’re being true to our values and our priority will always be our field to fork mantra. From our soil to your plate.
Seasonality & working with only what we grow can be a challenge and winter has been harsh. So where we can’t get food from our land we’ll be sticking to our promise of always local, seasonal, sustainable.
We always keep ourselves in check. We listen to feedback - every single word of it. We 🤎 feedback! Good, bad, and ugly. It keeps us curious, helps us grow.

So with that in mind expect some changes around here with our menus. More to come in that. We’ll be keeping some of the favourites too. Ok and yes… we have listened to you about the cauliflower cheese! It’s back and it’s better than ever it’s staying put!

Do you have a favourite dish you’d like to see stay or see again on the menu? Let us know in the comments!
