We found this wonderful piece of history by today! 👇❤️
Hopefully we are doing them proud…

We came across an advertisement for The Dorothy Café, a bakery and confectionery business formerly located at 2 Victoria Parade (58 East Street), opposite the Hotel Victoria. It was likely among the first businesses to occupy the large terrace known as ‘Victoria Parade’, which was built in 1898.

By the 1930s, the business was continuing to trade under the name Stephens. During this period, stained-glass panels were added to the shopfront, and remarkably, these historic features still survive today in the premises now occupied by Lost Brewing Co.

Much of the research we undertake through our archives helps support wider heritage projects, including the Newquay Conservation Area Group and the Newquay Heritage Trail. It’s fascinating to uncover these little pieces of Newquay’s commercial history and discover just how much of the town’s past remains visible in our streets today!
