We’re back next Wednesday for our May special! As well as sketches from Next Level Sketch (that’s us!), we have four beautiful special guests:
Will his act involve printing? It’s impossible to know! One of our favourite people: will Ella do clowning? Will Ella do poems? It’s impossible to know!

: Halima is a returning NLS champion and we can’t wait to see her again. Will she perform as Baba? It’s impossible to know! (Yes).

This show is part of the 20th birthday celebrations at Hoopla Impro, which we have been putting on shows at for over...six years?! Surely some mistake. We're all so young and fresh faced. Nevertheless, we've got the amazing Julia / Юля Jess Carrivick | Comedian | Actor | Writer and Jonathan Oldfield to help us celebrate this august institution and its continuing tolerance of our scripted material. We’re excited to be putting on a show as part of ’s 20th anniversary festival!!! We started Next Level Sketch in late 2019 after a bunch of us did sketch courses at Hoopla with Gemma Arrowsmith () and wanted to take things to the next level (see what we did there).

Since January 2020 we’ve been doing monthly-ish shows (global pandemics allowing) and running regular online and offline sketch comedy read-thru sessions, at which we offer group feedback ENTIRELY FREE OF CHARGE. These meetings are invariably run by the indefatigable ), whereas I (, the person writing these words) usually just make unhelpful sarcastic asides. Paul, you are my hero.

We are quite odd within Hoopla for the quite obvious reason that we write things down on bits of paper, memorise those things, and then say them out loud on stage. Experts tell me this isn’t improv! BUT lots of our regulars are also improv comedians, including people who are in Hoopla house teams. We feel very much a part of and made to feel welcome by the Hoopla world, even if occasionally we get people in the audience who have booked scripted comedy by mistake - ha! They seem to enjoy it.

Thanks to Steve and Angela for all their help and support over the years, and to all the brilliant people (writers, performers, and writer-performers) who have submitted a sketch, turned up to a meeting, or come along to one of our shows. We love you all! You make the world a better place.

Oh yes PROMOTION - our show is on Wednesday 22nd April! There’ll be some sketches, by us. There’ll also be clown and character comedy from , , and . There won’t be any improv, unless you count my hosting. Which many refuse to.

Live sketch comedy? On a Saturday night? It’ll never work!

Huge thanks to for having us and to for putting on SketchFest and supporting live sketch comedy.

This was a greatest hits style show as we work towards a proper debut hour to bring to some fringes in 2027. As an open submission sketch collective, which puts on brand stonking new sketches every month, we’re always gonna have shows that are a mix of new and classic. But to be able to put on an (almost) full hour of sketches we know are fu***ng brilliant was a total joy, and we brought back a few classics from the vaults. We do have SIX YEARS worth of sketches now, after all.

On Saturday Night, there will be some Live sketch comedy! Yes, that's right, we're doing a SketchFest show at 7pm at the Hen and Chickens Theatre. Come and watch us before the other one with the people that you know!

For their debut hour, Next Level Sketch are performing a Greatest Hits set of their very stupidest sketches from the past six years. Expect pirate religious figures, exceptionally awkward dates, and the ongoing travails of the Prime Minister, Sir Kier Starmer, and his wife, Sir Wife Starmer.
