We THINK that the RIsing Sun Bream may be the only Forest of Dean pub trying to give local brass bands a performance space to showcase their skills and entice new followers, or even members as we have been in contact with bands about our summer "Brass on the Grass" idea at the pub.
We have contacted ALL Forest of Dean Brass Bands with the details.
Sadly, today we have received a reply that breaks our heart, from a (very) local band, saying "Absolutely not. Please do not contact us again".
Given the speed of the reply we know it hasn't been presented to the band organisers. Is that the response they would have given?? We doubt it, but will never know, as we will not contact them again, as instructed.
Still, it hurts a tad, especially as this band is just one of the many local bands currently touting for gigs on Facebook which is why we came up with the idea of having Brass Bands in the pub garden.
So what did the Rising Sun do wrong? Nothing at all that we can work out... Never mind, on we go!
We hope for more positive and polite replies as we have an amazingly supportive brass band following, a lovely venue (have a look at the picture for the garden venue), and a splendid indoor venue if the weather plays up!
Our aim remains the same, despite the set back from one local band and it's simple - to have brass bands fortnightly on a Sunday 4 - 6 from 7th June at The Rising Sun Bream.
Our first band on 7th June is our local band Bream Silver Band, National Qualifiers 2026. We thank them for joining us for our Cider Festival, and hopefully we will see them once again before they represent the Village at the National Finals.
So, what's involved? Well, bands are guaranteed a fee from us (the pub) plus you are more than welcome to hold a collection whilst playing. Better still, you know you will not be rained off as we have a lush function room for bands to play in if the weather is inclement. A pretty sweet deal.

We WILL make this work, despite the initial set back, as we have a large customer base that are looking forward the hearing brass bands at our pub.
