🍷 Three Days in Barolo Heaven — Prunotto Style 🇮🇹
Spent an unforgettable few days exploring the magic of Prunotto, a century-old winery in the heart of Piemonte, and an Antinori’s star.
Tasted our way through some truly special wines (between endless plates of local tajarin, vitello tonnato, and truffle everything). A few (but not all) of the highlights:
The Barolo Classico 2021 was pure energy: red fruit, soft tannins, and a blend of 15 vineyards that somehow feels effortless.
The Bussia 2021, grown in an amphitheatre of older soils in southeast Barolo: silky, floral, with that unmistakable sense of place.
The Barolo Mosconi 2020 showed another side of Montforte: darker cherry fruit, rustic tannins, and a touch of elegance thanks to those sandy soils. A wine that feels both bold and refined.
And the vertical of Vigna Colonnello Riserva? 2010 tight and powerful, 2011 warm and ready, 2013 vibrant and aromatic (with surprising notes of mango)! Each vintage telling its own story from the same piece of land.
Loved hearing about the evolution from chestnut barrels to today’s elegant French and Slavonian oak, and how tradition and innovation spin together like a wheel and a road: one keeps the other moving forward whilst still respecting the tradition.
Massive thanks to the amazing team at Prunotto for the stories, hospitality, and more than a few generous pours. Saluti to Barolo, great food, and even better company. ❤️

Now, this is a very special Saturday winemaker tasting with a truly special guest! Meet Chester Osborn, the creator of Dead Arm wine and winemaker at the d’Arenberg winery, which has been named Winery of the Year countless times. He’s not only a winemaking genius but also quite a character.

This tasting won’t just be delicious — it will be anything but dull. After all, he named one of his wines Cenosilicaphobic Cat, so boredom isn’t on the menu. Chester is a true winemaking star, and tickets will sell out quickly.

Our annual managers’ trip this year finally took us to Meli’s homeland, beautiful Piedmont, through the heart of Barolo and Barbaresco — and wow… what a ride. These trips are all about coming together, sharing laughs, and we did a fair bit of learning too (including some Italian… mostly the bad words 😅).

We started with a visit to , where we were treated to a brilliant tasting and a deep dive into their passion and craft. Huge thanks to the team for the warm welcome. Then off to the iconic Gaja in Barbaresco, which blew our minds (as expected) and gave us a real sense of the rich history of the region and its people. We wrapped it all up with a visit to the classic — timeless, historic, and absolutely delicious.

Let’s just say we left Piedmont with full hearts, full bellies, a few extra kilos, and one very long hangover 😭

You’ll now find these wines in all our stores, and we’re always happy to chat about what we learned (or pour you a glass 😉).

Big news from Loki!

One of our brilliant students, Sebastian, has just been named the top WSET Level 3 Wines student in the UK – out of thousands who take the exam each year!

Thank to his incredible marks, he’s won the prestigious Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux Prize, and we couldn’t be more proud.

We love that Sebastian isn’t a wine professional – he took the course purely for fun. Now that’s the kind of wine passion we love to see. He’ll now be heading off on an all-expenses-paid week-long trip to Bordeaux as part of his prize!

Huge congratulations, Sebastian – and a big shoutout to his tutor Radu, who’s clearly done an outstanding job too.
