Something's stirring at The Red Lion... 🎃

With whispers of our resident ghost, a few unexplained goings-on, and Halloween looming, there's a distinctly spooky atmosphere settling over Betchworth.

Whether it's the Cellar Room ghost, the ghouls or simply the Halloween spirit, we're expecting a busy one!

🪦 A little warning from beyond the grave... We're fully booked from 4pm until close on Saturday, as well as between 12pm and 4pm on Sunday. If you're planning a visit, please check availability before setting off or booking online to avoid any Halloween horrors! 😱

We'd love to welcome you for a hauntingly good weekend. Just don't be too surprised if you sense a spectral presence... 👻

A chance find, a roast to remember! 🍗

We love hearing that guests have enjoyed their Sunday lunch at the Red Lion, and this recent Tripadvisor review had us glowing with pride:

"I came across this pub by chance, looking for somewhere half way between Kent and Bucks for a meet up with my cousins. What a lucky find, food was excellent, reasonably priced and service was great.

The roast dinners were served with 7 or 8 fresh vegetables, a large Yorkshire pudding and a large pig in blanket. We all agreed it was so good we would return."

🍻 We’ve made the list of the UK’s top 50 pubs!

Last year, we had the pleasure of welcoming charity fundraiser and committed pub patron, Pete Hill and his Black Country Ale Tairsters (BATS) to Betchworth.

Now, Pete has included us in his top 50 must-visit pubs in the Daily Mail, and we're delighted to have made the cut!

Pete certainly knows a thing or two about pubs. Since 1984, he's visited an incredible 25,000 of them, sampled around 60,000 pints and raised £36,000 for charity along the way.

His description of our historic inn made us smile:

"A quirky 16th-century country pub, with a cosy nook and cellar bar downstairs. There's even a 230-year-old wisteria in the garden. I spent a pleasant summer afternoon here, about which my memories are hazy."

Some weekends are made for slowing down. 🍂🔥

The Red Lion has been part of village life in Betchworth since 1759. Generations of people have come through our doors to meet friends, share a meal and enjoy a good evening.

A roaring log fire, the perfect pint, something delicious from the kitchen and nowhere in particular you need to be. Add a relaxed atmosphere, time to catch up properly and a warm welcome from the team, and a rainy weekend starts to look rather appealing!

And while the weather forecast might tempt you to stay at home, we think there’s something lovely about making the most of your local. Enjoy a leisurely lunch, pop in for a drink or make an evening of it over good food and conversation. 🍻

As a pub that’s been part of Betchworth for more than 260 years, we know that it’s the people who walk through our doors who make it what it is. Supporting local doesn’t have to mean making a grand gesture. Sometimes, it’s simply choosing your village pub for the weekend. 🦁
