How much more can British pubs take?

Running a pub has never been easy, but right now it feels harder than ever.

Every week, independent pubs like ours are battling rising wages, increasing energy bills, higher supplier costs, business rates and customers who simply don’t have the disposable income they once had.

And while we’re doing everything we can to keep our doors open, it feels like the current Government is doing very little to ease the pressure.

We’re not asking for handouts. We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re simply asking for a fair chance to survive.

At The Dog House, we’ve spent years building more than just a business. We’ve created a place where friends meet, families celebrate, local people find company and memories are made.

But behind the smiles, the events and the pints being poured, there is a very real struggle to make the numbers work.

People sometimes see a busy pub on a Saturday night and assume everything must be going well. What they don’t see are the bills, the quiet weekdays, the increasing costs and the worry that comes with keeping a small business running.

The Government needs to understand that pubs aren’t just businesses. They’re part of the heart of our communities.

Once a local pub closes, there’s no guarantee it will ever reopen.

We’re proud of what we’ve built at The Dog House, and we’ll continue fighting to keep it going.

But we need your support too.

So next time you’re thinking about having a drink, meeting friends, going out for lunch or celebrating something special, please consider your local pub.

Because if we don’t support our local pubs today, they might not be here tomorrow.

In previous years, we’ve been delighted to offer our Community Christmas Lunch free of charge. Unfortunately, with the current economic climate, rising costs and the increasing challenges of running a village pub, we simply can’t afford to do so this year. We’ve therefore made the difficult decision to charge just £10 per person to help cover some of the costs. We hope everyone understands, as we really want to keep this lovely Christmas tradition going and bring our community together for another special afternoon.
