The next chapter of The Porters Arms
In December 2023, The Porters Arms opened its doors, and I'm incredibly grateful that nearly three years later the pub is still here and continues to be so well supported by its customers.
The journey has never been an easy one. It all began back in 2020 when I was granted a start-up loan. Armed with a very rough plan, Emily, Johnny and I opened Norwich's first micropub, The Malt and Mardle.
So much has changed over the last six years. Emily and Johnny have gone on to pursue their own careers, The Porters Arms was opened, and The Malt was sold. All of these changes have led me to think carefully about the future of the pub and what the next chapter for The Porters Arms should look like.
The pub continues to do well and has so much potential for growth, but we have reached something of a crossroads. One option would be for me to commit a significant amount of time and further investment into growing the business. The other would be to pass the baton to someone who could make that commitment.
After putting everying into the pubs for the past six years, I have personally decided now is the time to move onto something new. More than anything, I want to give the business the very best chance of continuing to thrive long into the future. For that reason, I've made the difficult decision to put the pub on the market, with the hope of finding a new owner who can take it into its next stage of life.
My greatest hope is to find someone who shares the pub's values, appreciates what has been built here over the past six years, and will do the space justice.
To all of our customers, staff and friends in Aylsham a massive thank you! Your support, loyalty and friendship have made The Porters Arms what it is today, and I will be eternally grateful for everything you've done.
The pub will continue as usual and until the day that we find a buyer, I'll still see you at the bar for a pint.
