It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Alan Wright on May 20th, following his battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Alan and Sylvia Wright were the very first custodians of The Otter, pouring their hearts and souls into the pub, its community, and everyone who walked through its doors. Their warmth, dedication, and friendship helped shape The Otter into the special place so many came to know and love.

Even in his final days, Alan’s thoughts and memories remained with The Otter and the people he cared for there so deeply — a true reflection of the passion and pride he carried throughout his life.

Our thoughts, condolences, and deepest sympathies are with Sylvia and all of Alan’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.

Rest peacefully, Alan.

Well, this isn’t the kind of home makeover we had in mind…

After being slightly inconvenienced by a firebombing (0/10, do not recommend), we now have the small task of clearing out what’s left of our lives by May 9th. No rush or anything 🙃

So, if anyone happens to have spare boxes lying around that we can shamelessly pinch, we’d be incredibly grateful. We promise to return them once we’ve figured out where “home” is again.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported us so far—it genuinely means the world, even if we’re coping with a bit of dark humour right now.

The Old Mill will be back. We just don’t have a reopening date yet… but we’ll get there with your continued support ❤️

Important Community Update

On Monday 13th April, our business was the target of a serious firebomb attack. As a result, the premises have been forced to close, and both our business and home have been severely affected. Due to the extent of the damage, my family and I have had to vacate and are currently unable to live there.

This has been an incredibly difficult time for us, but we want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out with support, kindness, and offers of help. It truly means a great deal to us, and we are deeply grateful to be part of such a caring community.

We are currently working closely with the police in their investigation and are asking for your help. If anyone has any CCTV footage, Ring doorbell recordings, or any information from between 2:30am and 3:45am on Monday 13th April, please come forward. Even the smallest detail could be important. Information can be shared under reference 36/25518/26.

We will continue to keep you updated as things progress. Despite everything, we remain determined and will come back stronger.

Good morning all ☀️

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday to witness what can only be described as a masterclass in selective refereeing in the local derby… we’re sure the ref slept well in his blue-and-white pyjamas. Anyway, we move… 😇

If you’ve emotionally recovered (or are still ranting into your pint), today is Sunday Roast day — because nothing says healing like gravy.

🍽️ Choice of:
• Beef
• Turkey
• Roast vegetable tart
All for just £12… or go wild and add a starter or dessert for an extra £3 (treat yourself, you’ve been through a lot).

⚽ Football ALL day because apparently stress is a lifestyle now:
• Birmingham v Wrexham – 12pm
• Sunderland v Spurs & Palace v Newcastle – 2pm
• Chelsea v Man City – 4:30pm

So come down, refuel, rehydrate, and prepare to shout at more questionable decisions — this time from your seat with a roast in front of you.

Good morning to all you early risers, football experts, racing enthusiasts and—of course—the Suffolk dreamers clinging onto false hope…

Yes, we’re open today. Not because we have to be… but because the sheer excitement of watching Norwich City do what they do best has forced our hand. Doors open from 11am—brace yourselves.

Kitchen? Oh yeah, that thing you all keep asking about…
Open till 9pm as always.
Lunch deal? Still there till 5pm. Try to contain your excitement.

This afternoon we’ve got the small matter of the Grand National on the screens—sweepstake running at £5 a ticket, cash prizes up for grabs. So even if your football knowledge is questionable, you can still pretend you know horses too.

Then at 5:30pm, it’s Liverpool FC v Fulham FC—for those who like their football slightly less one-sided than what’s coming later…

Because at the proper time, we have the main event…
The Mighty Canaries vs… well… that very tiny team from Suffolk (you know the ones 🫏).

A gentle reminder: they haven’t won at Carrow Road in 20 years… but sure, this is the day it all changes. Keep believing lads. It’s adorable.

To celebrate the inevitable, anyone wearing yellow & green gets their first drink FREE 🍻
(Yes, Ipswich fans—you can still come in… we’ll just point and laugh politely.)

And if that’s not enough excitement for one day…
Spin the Wheel kicks off at 8pm 🎯
£1 a ticket, various prizes, and at least one person wondering why they bothered.

So come down, grab a drink, enjoy the atmosphere, and witness history…

Ah Friday… that magical day when productivity mysteriously drops and “just one pint” turns into a full evening at The Old Mill 🍻

Anyway, if you must leave the house, here’s what we’ve thrown together:

🍔 2 for 1 burgers (buy two, get the cheapest free… we’re generous like that)
🍾 Large bottles of Spumanti for £12… assuming Carol hasn’t locked the cupboard again 🙄

📺 Sport, sport, and more sport:
🏇 Horse racing from 1pm on the main screen
⛳ The Masters on the side screens (for the refined among you)
⚽ Tonight: Wet Spam v Wolves & WBA v Millwall, both kicking off at 8pm

💰 Feeling lucky? Grand National sweepstake behind the bar – £5 a ticket. What could possibly go wrong?

And just in case that’s not enough excitement…
🚪 We’re open from 11am tomorrow for the big one: Norwich v them from across the border 👀

So yeah… you could stay in. Or you could come to The Old Mill and make significantly worse decisions with the rest of us. Your call.
