FIRST DATE GAMES
Rock out with your… nostalgia out. First dates are about finding something in common, and for decades every kid either had or desperately wanted Guitar Hero. A little nostalgia goes a long way in getting the conversation flowing.
Guess Who is one of the games people play when they don’t know anything else. Nothing wrong with that, but for a first date I suggest a different ruleset: no physical descriptions. Would your person go to Yah Yah’s? Would you be confident if they were making you coffee? Do they have more screentime than hours slept? It’s a great way to learn about how someone thinks.
Azul is well-known to boardgamers, but obscure otherwise. If you’re willing to learn the rules (takes ten minutes plus a slow first game) then what awaits is a comfortable competition you can chat over.
For a fantastic first date I suggest all three. Start with Guitar Hero to get comfy, move to Guess Who to get to know your date, and once you have some things to talk about learn something more complicated with Azul.
What games would you pick for a first date?
