“In our extensive summer drinking experience, we've found that crisp bottles are best paired with an expansive lake view, and the best on White Bear Lake is off Acqua's patio. This Italian restaurant from husband-wife team Nicole and Daron Close has been a draw for wine and food fans since opening in 2009.

The seafood-leaning fare is built for summer date nights. They also boast an abundance of gluten-free options - something few restaurants with this cuisine in the area offer at this level.

Nicole's encyclopedic wine knowledge and enthusiasm makes their list a delight to peruse. For a proper crowd-pleaser to order before the oysters, risotto and halibut courses hit the line, she suggests the Surrau 'Limizzani' Vermentino di Gallura ($15 glass/$60 bottle) from Sardinia. "A fresh honey, bright gold color that has a visual density that clings to the glass. Upfront aromas of white flower, yellow pear, Meyer lemon and peach with a definite minerally note are a lovely precursor to what your mouth is about to enjoy."
