Last ARTstart class, we read the book, “All of Us” by Carin Berger. This beautiful book depicts the many diverse individuals that make up US! It talks about love, empathy, and the power of community! One of the characters carried his kite throughout the story so we decided to make our own kites and fly them at the end of class. Working together, we constructed, decorated and wondered if they would really fly… and they did! And we had so much fun helping each other accomplish our goal!!

SHAMc’s mosaic exterior was created by hundreds of volunteers gluing hundreds of pieces of mosaic for hundreds of [collective] hours. We’re dipping into the SHAMc archive today, pulling photos from “Mosaic Parties” where people would come to the gazebo at WhimZeyLand to contribute. Most sessions were led by volunteer Jan Stiffler, who cut thousands of pieces of glass for the project.

As we get ready to celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we’re revisiting the memories that helped us become the organization we are today. Join us December 4, 5, & 6 as we throw the biggest SHAMc party yet! SHAMc’s Creative Carnaval SHAMcGivinG event is a recipient of an Arts Everywhere grant. Musician MikelParis (of the band O.A.R.) recorded a music video last time he was at SHAMc! He has another concert at our venue on Saturday, November 21! Come see him play his unique “guitar drumming” technique! Known for his soulful blend of melody, rhythm, and creativity, MP has performed with acclaimed artists including P!NK, Jewel, and Train, appeared in STOMP, and currently tours as a keyboardist with O.A.R.

The next ceramics session starts on Tuesday! Learn the art of working with clay under guidance of artist Natty Moss Bond. This class is offered in the afternoons (1-3:30pm) and evenings (6-8:30pm).

Teen Takeover is tonight! Youth aged 13-17 are welcome to jump into arts education from 5 to 7 pm with a constructive project! This program is for all levels of creators- Bring a friend! This program happens EVERY Wednesday.

Starting in November, we will require pre-registration for this FREE program. It’s getting too popular! Teen Takeover is presented in partnership with Speak Up: Let’s Talk About Mental Health

Ceramic artist Jan Richardson recently hosted a sold-out Hand-Building Houses Workshop at SHAMc! During the two-day event, students learned to craft unique clay houses inspired by Jan's celebrated Windy Meadow Pottery designs! They turned out fantastic- Take a look!
