This week in ARTstart: Art and Literature, we read the book,”The White Raven” by Kathryn Otoshi. The book invites children to consider what might happen to a raven born a different color than all of the other ravens. We asked and discussed: Will it be rejected? What if a child finds it and what happens when differences are met with kindness?  The children’s answers to the questions bloomed with empathy! During the art portion, we used oil pastels and chalk to create a colorful raven in the sky!

ARTstart for ages 4-7 happens the first and third Mondays of the month: You can sign up for both sessions or come to one or the other as a drop-in.

We’re still raising funds for Ellie to be fiberglassed! We are 14% of the way to our goal! The Florida weather has required multiple operations on our mascot, so we are trying to cover her in fiberglass!

Here’s a fun story shared by Gary Sawtelle: in 2016, Ellie was headed to ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but she wouldn’t fit in the box truck. Kumpa, her sculptor, used a chainsaw to cut off her legs and they were glued back on in Michigan!
