Celebrating 20 years of Francis Court and the lives changed along the way.
“My husband and I met in recovery and fell in love. I already had a daughter and was pregnant with our first child together. As we prepared to leave treatment, we faced a difficult reality: we had nowhere to live together and raise our children.
Francis Court gave us that opportunity. We could finally live together, continue our recovery, and prepare for our daughter’s arrival. We had no idea one of the hardest journeys of our lives was about to begin.
After countless appointments and tests, doctors discovered our daughter had a heart condition. After she was born, she needed heart valve surgery and was hospitalized several times while we lived at Francis Court.
Caring for her became our entire world. I left my job, and my husband missed work. There were trips to UC Davis, unexpected hospital stays, and frightening moments when we did not know what would happen next.
Through it all, our case manager and FaithWorks stood beside us. They connected us with transportation, food, and rental assistance. More importantly, they gave us love, encouragement, and prayer. We never faced it alone.
We were among the first families to move into Francis Court 3. It became the place where we grew as a family—and where my husband and I got married. What began as two people meeting in recovery became a marriage, a family, and a future built together.
My husband found a job with an employer who allowed him to be there when our daughter needed care.
We have since moved into permanent housing. My husband is still working, and we are building the life we once only dreamed about. Our family has grown to include two more beautiful children.
Francis Court gave us more than a place to live. It gave us a safe place to become a family during one of the most frightening times of our lives. It gave us people who prayed with us, believed in us, and reminded us we were never alone.
We will always be grateful for the love and support that helped our family get where we are today.” —Christena

Big shout out to Carrying Heroes 🙌😆 Our House of Cornelius Veterans had so much fun and are excited to come back! Kelsi, we appreciate you so much! For those who may not know, Carrying Heroes is using rescued horses to serve veterans, active duty, first responders, and their family members in order to ease the effects of stress encountered due to service. 💜

Celebrating 20 years of Francis Court and the lives changed along the way.
"When I came to Francis Court, I was facing some of the hardest times in my life. My income was too low, I had no rental history, no transportation, and I was struggling with addiction, low self worth, and setting healthy boundaries. I had lost my happiness, and the hardest part was having my children removed by CFS.

I knew I needed to make changes not only for myself, but for my children. Francis Court gave me a safe place to begin rebuilding. I had housing security, even though it was temporary, and I began to see my children relax and feel comfortable in our own home. Little by little, our apartment became more than a place to stay it became our home.

The staff, classes, counseling, and support system helped me grow. I learned to communicate better, set boundaries, and understand that it is okay to not be okay. I learned that asking for help does not make me weak; it helps me become stronger.

Today, it has been more than five years since my family left Francis Court, and I am still doing amazing. I have continued to build a stable life for myself and my children. I am grateful for the lessons I learned and for the support that helped me believe I deserved a better future.

My advice to anyone beginning their journey is this: “Jump through the hoops you will thank yourself later. This is only a season; it is not permanent " -Ariel-
