Envínate is Coming to Hang
at Pluck Tomorrow!

Dear Wine Lovers,

We at Pluck are huge Envínate (Spanish for 'wine yourself') fans.

Like many wines, it's not just the beverage we've fallen for, but the people that were compelled to create it.

Unlike many wines, this project is not your usual example of a continuation of generational inheritance or tradition. Envínate's start was far more grittier than that. These are four friends who met in enology school and needed to find a way to do what they love. They created leverage by forming a partnership, then built their winery from scratch, focusing on the pockets of Spain they knew best, improving and reinvesting in themselves, little by little.

I've been a sommelier a bit longer than Envínate has existed, so I've had the pleasure of watching the beautiful evolution of these wines over time (and now more than ever, I can appreciate the fortitude and passion required to start a small business, and the determination needed to stay the course and not succumb to compromise). Truthfully, these wines came out swinging from the beginning, taking risks, staying focused, and besting themselves vintage after vintage.

In honor of Roberto and Alfonso's visit tomorrow night, we will be pouring EVERY Envínate wine we have by the half glass, (some in very small quantities!). The wines come from three different regions of Spain, and can be approached in countless ways, so we think the flexibility to let you mix and match, try different cuvées and vintages side-by-side, while talking about them with the winemakers, is truly the best possible experience we can provide.

Plus, word on the street is that Roberto and Alfonso are extraordinary blind tasters, so we've also got a blind wine game ready for them–and you–if you're up for the challenge 🤓

Nothing ignites us more than the winemakers themselves, so we are not ones to squander such an opportunity (thanks Disco Liquids!). If you are free tomorrow night, come hang with us, Alfonso, Roberto and some of the Disco Liquids crew, you won't want to miss it!

Also, FYI we are closed tonight/Monday April 20th from 7:30 to 11pm
for a private event

Thanks for loving wine,
Skye & the whole Pluck Posse

Dear Wine Lovers,

Since our first two years were during a pandemic, we're feeling pretty good about five.

Not exactly a lucky start, but tackling abnormal challenges taught us valuable lessons and infused a bit of old-soul charm into the Pluck DNA that we may not have otherwise earned.

Of course, we didn't get here alone.

During build-out, I essentially survived on Keife & Co, The Independent and Doris Metropolitan.

In year one, still in full pandemic mode, I'm not sure anyone would have turned the corner of Girod Street without the neighborly encouragement from Herbsaint. (I remember when it first opened 25 year ago, and I was like, what are you thinking, opening this precious unicorn in the gloomy CBD 🙄...hah!)

Years two and three brought Tell Me Bar, Patron Saint, and Emeril’s Wine Bar, further solidifying the renaissance of New Orleans wine culture, each with a unique perspective, flush with passionate people to love and support, all within walking distance of each other (RRNW too, albeit more of a hike!)

As a woman restaurateur who often second guesses the sustainability of pouring every drop of your very being into your profession, but also, just as a person who insists on consuming delicious things, the openings of Acamaya, Evviva and Lagniappe Bakery have been vital sources of inspiration.

And every time we found ourselves dangling off a cliff towards the depths of some crazy restaurant insanity I couldn't imagine ever escaping, the Fairy Godfathers of New Orleans hospitality at Bacchanal, Stein's and La Boca, swoop in, brush us off, and give us what we need to survive another day.

Then, there’s you. Our guests. Our regulars. The people spreading the word and showing this team so much love.

Without you, we’d just be sitting here drinking all the Champagne ourselves.

Which, as y'all know, we would still do.

Its way more fun doing it with you, surrounded by a city full of talent and passion.

So what can we say? Wine bar-ing definitely ain't easy, but it sure is fun 😎.

Go Pluck! is Nigh

In our four year anniversary newsletter, we were excited to share progress regarding our intent to sell wine off-premise (i.e retail). While we didn't expect to still be pending one year later, we are able to say with confidence that official status for 'Go Pluck' is coming VERY soon.

We won't be adding any shelves or making any structural changes to Pluck. Our initial focus is on finding fun ways to expose you to the producers and wines we think you'll love, in the countless contexts that occur in your life away from Girod Street.

In the meantime, we are currently able to curate selections for you to take home. If you are interested in letting us do that for you, pop by or reach out to me directly at [email protected]. Knowing how many bottles, your budget, and a general idea of what you're looking for (ie building an everyday stash, hosting a party, self education, exploring outside of your comfort zone, etc) is helpful info to start with.

We are beyond excited for this new opportunity to wine with you.

Thank you for all the love and support,
Skye & the whole Pluck Posse

Pluck, as in you pluck a grape.
Force, as in we are a force to be reckoned with.
Five, as in we’ve been open 1,2,3,4, FIVE wild years.

Once described as “the deadliest woman in the bayou, with a wine key.”

As you can tell from all my faces, getting to five wasn’t easy, but it’s sure been fun 🙃

To get this far, we’ve leaned on the constant support of our friends and guests—and the endless inspiration we find in our colleagues, our community, and the producers we admire.

On Saturday, March 21st, come celebrate you, us, and everything else that has brought Pluck this far.

Walk in or make a resy. We open at 3pm as usual, specials start at 5pm.

Don your Foxy Assassin or ‘Pluck’ Fiction threads for bonus points 🕺🏼
