Our friend Oliver McCrum started importing Italian wines in 1994. His catalog spans some of our favorite producers in the country, and his career has been defined by discovery, championing producers from all over the Italian countryside.

Oliver will be sharing his life and stories in wine through eight bottles at Compline Wine Shop on Wednesday, September 16.

Christian Adams does not give a &*% if you think you don’t like Riesling.

He’s here to tell you to drink it anyway—Riesling, and every other variety that makes German wine so good today.

A German and American citizen, Christian has worked harvests in the Rheingau and Franken, and has run celebrated wine programs in Carmel, San Francisco, and his hometown of Aschaffenburg, Germany. For years he represented the wines of the retired, famed importer Rudi Wiest, and now he’s the Western US Sales Manager for the German Wine Collection, the heir apparent to Rudi’s best producers and some of the most distinguished, classic estates in Deutschland.

This Thursday, August 27, Christian is pouring some of the very best still and sparkling Riesling (looking at you, Raumland and GG Karthäuserhof) but this tasting is about so much more than one grape variety. Don’t miss this!

For the second year in a row, we did it!

Thanks to you, USA Today has named Compline Wine Shop one of the Top 5 Best Wine Shops in America. We couldn’t have done it without our incredible community of customers, friends, and fellow wine lovers. Thank you for shopping with us, voting for us, and staying thirsty!

To celebrate, we’re throwing a HI-FIVE PARTY this Saturday, August 15, from 6:30–9:00 p.m, at the shop!

We bought a stack of new records, and we’re going to turn it up, let loose, and pop some corks. Peter and Matt will be pouring a few favorites for those who get here early. Fourth-generation California farmer and legendary winemaker Bob Cabral has 46 vintages under his belt, including a storied run as winemaker at Williams Selyem, where he helped define one of California’s most iconic Pinot Noir producers. Today, Bob continues that legacy with Bob Cabral Wines, crafting small-production Pinot and Chardonnay bottlings that are every bit as compelling as the wines that made his name.

We’re thrilled to welcome Bob to Compline Wine Shop for a seated tasting. The lineup features five current releases from Bob Cabral Wines alongside four library Williams Selyem selections, all poured out of magnums from Bob’s personal cellar.

This Wednesday, July 15, meet Peter Andrews, the founder of South African import specialist Culture Wine Co. and co-founder of Hella Chenin. He’s an industry leader and he’s coming to Compline to share the exciting changes taking place in the South African wine industry—largely spearheaded by a young generation of winemakers focused on clean natural wines as well as organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farming methods.

The producers he represents are producing vibrant, energetic Pinotage—a welcome change from the bombastic, high alcohol styles of the past—and they’re crafting single-varietal wines from lesser-known grapes like Fernao Pires, Colombar, and Palomino; varieties traditionally lost to bulk co-op blends.

The current South African wine scene is innovative and energized, but what sets it apart from others is its collective dedication to fostering an open, inclusive wine culture. It is inspiring to witness the camaraderie, the willingness to share knowledge, and the support this community gives. There are so many reasons to be excited about South African wine, and Culture Wine Co. is here to share those stories.

We are back in the running!

For the second year, Compline Wine Shop has been nominated as one of USA Today’s “10 Best” Wine Shops in America. And of course we have the most kick-ass wine shop clientele in America, which is to say—we wouldn’t be here without you!
