:: Special Announcement :: Join us on Saturday, November 21st for a 50 year White Water Tavern anniversary show featuring the Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Dan Penn and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Spooner Oldham. Only 85 tickets will be sold - get yours for $60 at www.whitewatertavern.com

Known for their remarkable contributions to American music, Penn and Oldham have helped shape the sound of Southern soul and written songs that have become part of the musical landscape. This special performance offers audiences the chance to hear these two icons share their music, stories, and the history behind the songs.

Dan Penn is an American songwriter, singer, musician, and record producer, who co-wrote many soul hits of the 1960s, including The Dark End of the Street, Do Right Woman, Do Right Man, and Cry Like a Baby. Penn also produced many hits, including "The Letter", by The Box Tops. His songs have been recorded by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, James Carr, Percy Sledge, Janis Joplin, Charlie Rich, Albert King, Jerry Garcia, Nick Lowe, Alex Chilton, Clarence Carter, and countless more.

The extensive list of musicians Spooner Oldham has played with includes Arlo Guthrie, Jim Croce, Gram Parsons, The Everly Brothers, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Gene Clark, Ry Cooder, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, Bob Seger, Maria Muldaur, Rita Coolidge, Bobby Womack, Albert King, Helen Reddy, Harry Nilsson, Stephen Stills, J.J. Cale, Drive By Truckers, and Neil Young. In his earlier days, he also made his way to the FAME studios and had the first of many collaborations with Penn. Among their notable FAME triumphs were Percy Sledge’s “It Tears Me Up,” James and Bobby Purify’s “I’m Your Puppet."

“When I was 15 year old kid in my room, I would never believe that would someday play legendary venues like the Hollywood Bowl or Royal Albert Hall. You couldn’t have told me that I’d be in the studio with Taj Mahal, or play onstage with the Allman Bros. Band and members of Thin Lizzy. Some days, it’s a dream job…"

The always-superb AARON LEE TASJAN and his great band return to the White Water on Thursday, September 24th w/ special guest MADELEINE KELSON opening the night at 8pm 💥 Advance tickets are recommended and available @ www.whitewatertavern.com

Aaron Lee Tasjan was experiencing the worst bout of imposter syndrome of his career when he sat down and wrote Todd Snider a vulnerable email asking for advice. Tasjan, despite writing and recording some of the most astute Americana rock songs of the last decade and being nominated for a Grammy, just didn’t see a future for an independent singer, songwriter, and guitarist like himself.

Snider read Tasjan’s email and immediately replied: “I think I have some ideas. I’ll write you back tomorrow.”

The next morning, Tasjan awoke to a signature Todd Snider missive for how to move forward as an artist. It was a novel-length email that read like the battle plans for the Invasion of Normandy. Do this, Snider wrote. Then this. But never that. The specifics don’t matter — besides, that’d be giving away the secret — but Tasjan devoured his mentor’s words and took them to heart.

He began writing feverishly, unbothered by expectations and immune to any pressure to match his acclaimed albums like In the Blazes, Karma for Cheap, or his most recent, 2024’s Stellar Evolution. When he was through, Tasjan had Get Over It, Underdog, his most inspiring LP to date. Produced by Tasjan and his longtime sound engineer Mark Miller, the album is a celebration of the power of songwriting, the unbreakable bond of friendship, and the determination of the dark horse.

MESSA will be in from Northern, Italy this Friday, September 11th, along with Tulsa's MEDICINE HORSE & Little Rock's own APOTHECARY 💥 Advance tickets are selling well - get yours for this production at www.whitewatertavern.com

Messa emerged on the first day of 2014. The extreme diversity of their musical background immediately proved to be essential in the construction of the band’s sound: Prog, Black Metal, Punk, Dark Ambient, jazz, Blues and Doom… all those influences have been channelled into a sonic cauldron that the band defines “Scarlet Doom”.

Nico Williams, a citizen of Cherokee Nation, moves between jazz-tinged vocal melodies and emotionally charged howls, weaving lyrical storytelling of historical account, folklore, and Indigenous futurism around the layers of sludgy-yet-energetic harmony formed in the clash of techniques between rhythm guitarist Kyle Williams (Otoe-Missouria, Ponca and Ioway Nations) and lead guitarist Travis Rowe. Rowe draws deeply from his country roots, transforming those immovable hooks into devastatingly heavy riffs before they ignite into towering solos. A rhythm section steeped in the slow waters of their respective homes of Monroe and New Orleans Louisiana, drummer Garrett Heck and bassist Chris West anchor the sound with elements of doom in one moment, and the frenetic energy of thrash in the next. Immediate influences of Southern doom and sludge like Crowbar, Acid Bath and Down are easy to discern, while hints of grunge, post-punk, and classic Southern blues rock simmer beneath the surface. Burn w**d, cedar, and sage…plug in, turn up, and amplify your frontal lobe.

Thelma and the Sleaze is an independent all-female, q***r southern rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. The group is the brainchild of lead vocalist and guitar player Lauren "LG" Gilbert and features an evolving cast of A-team players to back her up for an unforgettable live experience.

LG is the embodiment of hustle. As the driving force behind Thelma and The Sleaze, she is the songwriter, the visionary, the take-no-sh*t-from-anyone front woman that is single handedly keeping rock and roll alive. Thelma and The Sleaze has been touring the US for years building a legion of fans, affectionally called her creepers. The growing social media presence, the hit podcast, the features with Yamaha Guitars are really all the result of her incredible songwriting, visceral guitar playing, and the guts to deliver on her vision of what Rock and Roll should be.

On this date 50 years ago today, the White Water Tavern opened its doors for the very first time. In a society where so many of the old-school, beloved places are rapidly vanishing, we are ineffably grateful to still be standing after half a century.

We feel endlessly indebted to the artists who bare their souls upon our modest stage, our enormously generous patrons who share their encouragement and hard-earned dollar, and our vital staff, past and present, who’ve sacrificed a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in order to keep this beer joint and gathering place alive.

Thank you for the last 50 years. Cheers to many more.

Our brothers Adam Faucett and William Blackart have been touring all across the country and we are super pumped to welcome them home with a duo show this Saturday night, September 5th, w/ Annie Ford kicking the night off with a set of her own 💥 Advance tickets available for $10 at www.whitewatertavern.com

Adam Faucett's sixth solo album, New Variations of The Reaper (Last Chance Records), saw its official release on September 19, 2025. A touch too beautiful to call plaintive, Variations winds the listener through surreal dreamscapes and reminds them that "Nobody Wanna See This Alone." And like his previous releases, it has a strong sense of place--Arkansas

Memories of the mountains back home, travels across the country and ghosts of love permeate the emotional landscape of AnnieFord’s songs. There is an timeless and dynamic quality to her playing and singing that seems at once to come from the ether and a deep connection to the inner workings of the heart.
