Our first of many Barn Quilt Classes are NOW AVAILABLE! 🧶🎨🌲

We had an amazing amount of interaction on our inquiry post, and quickly realized that we should offer TWO DATE OPTIONS to accommodate as many participants as possible:

•Thursday, August 6th from 9am-3pm
•Monday, August 10th from 9am-3pm

Class will take place under our open-air Events Tent at the base of our Balsam Fir Field!

Included with your registration is your 2'x2' wood canvas, all exterior paint, tape, brushes, and lunch! Your canvas will be pre-traced with your chosen design and ready to create - Please flip through the photos on the website listing and choose one of the ten design options, then indicate this when selecting your date at check-out!

When you arrive to class, you'll be able to pick up to 6 pre-mixed custom exterior paint colors from the "paint bar", so you can come to class with a rough plan OR be completely spontaneous!

Around noon, lunch will be provided, which will consist of assorted sandwiches and wraps (meat or vegetable options), chips and popcorn, cookies, fruit, water, old-fashioned Fallen Oak Farms sodas, and a hot coffee bar! If you'd like to bring additional snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, you are more than welcome to do so. If you have any dietary restrictions, please inform us ahead of time by emailing [email protected]!

We anticipate a 6-hour timeframe for class, but if you finish before 3pm, you can absolutely leave early, or remain to enjoy the beauty of the farm!

*All Barn Quilts will be created with exterior house paint, but we do recommend finishing your quilt once home with a clear coat or weather protectant (especially if displaying outdoors) to help with longevity!

*At some point, we plan to host a Barn Quilt Class geared toward children, but this class would be considered teen or adult safe, due to the size of the wood canvas!

Lastly, class will be led by owner and artist, MacKenzie Cayford - That’s ME! 😊 In the featured photo, I am holding our 4’x4’ barn quilt! We cannot wait to welcome you to the farm for these exciting events!

Cannot believe that we already get to say this, but we have completely BOOKED every single Saturday in both September and October, with only six Sundays still available between the two months!

We will be accepting applications today and tomorrow for Rudi’s Market at BalsamFest, so if you or someone you know makes, creates, or curates something awesome and you’re available on July 10th or 11th (or both), please consider joining us!

A few categories that we would LOVE to see representation in are; Fiber/wool/textiles, Pottery, Woodworking, and Floral! That said, the creative options are endless, and if it’s something you’re passionate about - We would LOVE the chance to have you here!

This week, the farm received such a thoughtful write-up from the Maine SBDC, and we are honored to have our story shared in places beyond just our own social media! 💙⭐️

This is a little different from our usual content, but the behind-the-scenes of running a place like this is actually the biggest part, and it inspired me to try to be helpful in a world more broad than Christmas Trees and fun events!

We have some pieces of advice for future business owners, they range in professionalism 😆:

•The Maine Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will actually truly help you, and it is completely zero cost advising - DO IT.
•Check out “Maine Business Answers” online if you have questions about required licensing for any endeavor imaginable - It’s a quick search!
•Set yourself up with a bank that doesn’t require super high minimum balances and penalties
•Shopify is a great platform if you have an online storefront or in-person storefront, and want your general website all in one place
•If you work with Faire Wholesale and you knew about a brand before purchasing, grab a direct link from that business prior to checking out
•Be nice to people even if they aren’t always nice to you - It feels better at the end of the day
•If you work in a heavily populated area and need to scream, find a well insulted room first (😁)
•Feeling defeated means you genuinely care
•It’s only as scary as you allow it to be. ❤️

Have fun, follow your dreams, and remember that you can do whatever you want with your life -
You just have to START.

My favorite thing in the entire world is hanging out with my cool best friend, who also happens to be my soulmate.

My second favorite thing is the fact that he will do anything that is silly, ridiculous, or questionable, if I ask nicely and believe it has good purpose.

My third favorite thing - Using that content to then spread good news. For our upcoming Artisan Market at BalsamFest, we are incredibly happy to introduce a new, reduced vendor fee structure. We want our market to be a vibrant, accessible space for the region’s creators and curators, and it is more important to us to share this space and give individuals an outlet to sell their goods, than to simply match common industry pricing.

Every business owner around us has said the same thing; You’ll have 100 ideas, one will land, and you’ll be learning lessons on how you actually want to run things from the beginning to the end. The point of our farm, and every event that we have ever hosted, or will ever host, is to literally just make people feel joy. That’s it. We want to make people feel so darn happy to be here, and we sincerely hope that is what we are accomplishing.

Vendor booths now start at $35 for one day, or $50 for both days. We are looking for all of your creations to cover the field, while our other family activities take place simultaneously along our storefront, food trucks, and reindeer-like activities. I remember being a vendor for the very first time, or even for the fifth time - Remembering that it is nerve-racking, and you have no way of knowing how you will do. We hope this gives you an opportunity to get your foot in the door, keep your foot in the door, meet some new friends and followers, or just have a great Christmas-in-July day of sales!
