Meet the MLA Board! 🦞

Meet Adam Gamage! Hailing from South Bristol, Adam began his career on the water in 1985 aboard a 14-foot wooden skiff. A third-generation lobsterman, Adam fishes out of the South Bristol Fishermen’s Co-op, where he also serves on their Board. Inspired by the legacy of his father, Arnie Gamage, Adam stepped up to support Maine’s fishing communities and industry traditions and has proudly served on our board for the past three years. When he’s not hauling traps, you’ll find him out on the golf course working on his swing!

A lobsterman's v-notch tool is one of the most important conservation tools in the industry. It allows lobstermen to safely mark egg-bearing females so they are protected to produce hundreds of thousands of future eggs. This conservation effort is led by the lobster community and keeps our lobster fishery sustainable!

Thanks to our long-standing board member, Bobby Ingalls for submitting this photo of him putting his 84-year-old cousins boat off with the iconic V notch tool close by his station.

Congratulations to Blake Feltis of Waldoboro and Medomak Valley High School!

Blake comes from a long line of fishermen on both sides of his family and has been on the water since he was 2 years old. From tuna fishing and lobstering with his older sister to scalloping with his mom and dad, he has spent his life working Maine’s waters.

Today, Blake holds a commercial lobster license with 300 traps, along with commercial menhaden, and clamming licenses. He attended Mid-Coast School of Technology, where he studied Marine Technology and Welding, earning a third-place finish at the SkillsUSA State Welding Championship.

After graduation, Blake will attend Yamaha Marine School to learn more about outboard engines before continuing his career on the water.

Congratulations, Blake!

Congratulations to Tanner Griffin of Mt. Ararat High School!

A 7th generation fisherman from Harpswell, Tanner has been helping on his dad’s boat since he was 5 years old and began fishing from his own skiff at 8. He successfully completed the student lobster license program before graduating and has spent years building the skills and experience needed to pursue a life on the water.

Today, Tanner fishes his 36' BHM, πΈπ‘›π‘‘π‘Žπ‘›π‘”π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘‘ 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑠, out of Cundy’s Harbor and plans to make lobstering his full-time career.

Congratulations to Isaac Lewis, a senior in the Boothbay Region High School Class of 2026!

Isaac has been fishing since he was just 4 years old alongside his grandfather, developing a passion for Maine’s lobster industry from an early age. After completing his student apprenticeship at 14, he continued building his future on the water and, at just 16 years old, purchased his grandfather’s 26-foot lobster boat, the π΅π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘›π‘‘π‘Ž 𝐽.

Halfway through his senior year, Isaac took another big step, purchasing a 37-foot lobster boat, the π·π‘’π‘“π‘–π‘Žπ‘›π‘π‘’. His goal is to make lobstering his full-time career and continue the traditions of Maine’s working waterfront for years to come.

Congratulations, Isaac!

We’re inspired by young fishermen like Isaac whose dedication, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit are helping shape the future of Maine’s lobster industry.

Congratulations to Piper Lamarre of West Bath and Morse High School's Class of 2026!

Piper grew up on the lobster boat with her dad and grandfather, developing a deep appreciation for Maine’s fishing heritage and working waterfront. When she’s not on the water, she enjoys attending the Boothbay Harbor Lobster Boat Races and spending time lobstering with friends.

After high school, Piper plans to study Logistics and Supply Chain Management, bringing her knowledge of Maine’s coastal industries into an exciting new field.

Congratulations, Piper!

The pogies are coming!

June 8 marks the opening of Maine’s 2026 menhaden, or pogy, season. Menhaden are a primary bait source for Maine’s lobster fishery, helping keep our working waterfronts and lobster boats supplied throughout the season.

This year, boats may land menhaden on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with a weekly limit of up to 17,850 pounds.

Congratulations to Morgan Conant of South Harpswell and Mt. Ararat High School!

Morgan is graduating a year early, an impressive accomplishment that reflects her hard work and determination. She has been lobstering since she was about 8 years old.

Last season, Morgan completed her apprenticeship program, and she recently earned her lobster licenseβ€”an exciting milestone as she continues her journey in the industry.
