Before this concept was a thought, before the popups, before signing the lease for 935 Broadway, our 20 year friendship unknowingly became the foundation for what would become Loretta Jean’s. A friendship that began in Kansas City’s service industry, specifically the enchanting world of the dive bar. Over the years that friendship was nurtured by our mutual deep connection to music, many late nights drinking jager and probably crying to sappy songs, both quitting drinking, some losses and many rebirths. Fast forward two decades later and we found ourselves just unstable enough to think opening a restaurant, after our collective experiences, was the right idea. It’s an idea we believe deeply in.
Human connection is everything and that’s why our friendship is the foundation of our concept. Our ambition for Loretta Jean’s is to have a meaningful, well layered concept that provides a comfortable and engaging experience. We want to cultivate real life, long term connections with the people of our city and have a positive impact on our community.
We are confident in our food and beverage programs. As we test our menu items for when we open, we will share our progress with you. We will operate with full transparency and are excited to share how we do what we do. We will share the story of our city, our region, our families, our loved ones and our lives through our dishes and drinks. And as we learn more about you, we will begin sharing your stories, as well.
This restaurant is an act of love before it is an act of anything. This type of idealism is typically scoffed at by hardliners in the industry or seen as a gimmick by the skeptical. But to be entirely honest, that approval is not really anything we actively search for and that skepticism can be tedious to metabolize.
Sometime this fall we will open those doors and the silence that filled the room for decades will be filled with our voices and yours. The anticipation is difficult to contain! We can’t wait to share our stories with you and we can’t wait to hear yours.
