WHO IS RUFUS McBLACK? We asked a few questions; here’s what we found:
How did the band form?
Johnny and Clay were in a hardcore band called Manuscript Division so they had musical ties even before Johnny moved to California. When he came back Clay told him he had met a bass player that plays with Grayson Capps. They got in touch and we got our first gig for an impromptu jam at Big Beach Brewing. The chemistry was there from the beginning and we started to write in the thick bamboo forest of Magnolia Springs. This was around the very beginning of the world opening back up after Covid. Definitely a Covid band.

Mars Volta, My Morning Jacket, Grayson Capps, Infectious Grooves, Radiohead, Tony Levin, RHCP, Zao, 80’s films, Surfing, Norma Jean
Highlights?
1. Appearing on the Sonic Dip radio show hosted by Dr. Music. You played 2 songs from our first EP. We were texting each other with excitement. I personally wrote down the whole radio show of artist you played. Big highlight from us. You gave us so much love.
2. Having 3 songs featured in a professional documentary about a surfer from California. We got paid really well and all of us felt kindred to the fact our songs made it on a surf film.
3. Opening up for Daijkaiju.
4. Playing the 30th anniversary for Dr. Music.

What can we expect from the September 19 show?
Thrashing-out in the mist of the fog machine, we’ll will play every song from our new EP, Remember That One Time. We plan to riff some of the old hits and make a beautiful psychedelic stew. Crowd participation is necessary.
