It is Greens Aerification time at Springfield! This Monday and Tuesday we will be punching greens to help push the summer transition and ensure their health throughout the year. Nine holes will be open each day as we progress through the course, with all 18 reopening on Wednesday. The good news…automatic two putts the rest of the week!! We’ll keep you posted on the progress throughout so stay tuned for videos and updates!

We have had quite a few people ask us some questions about the grass as we transition a little earlier than expected this year. So here is what you need to know…

SPRING TURF TRANSITION UPDATE
⛳ What You’re Seeing on the Course
Our golf course is currently transitioning from winter Rye grass to summer Bermuda grass—a normal annual process that looks a little different this year.

🌡️ Why It’s Happening Early
• Late March heat spike (~105°) caused Rye grass to decline earlier than usual
• Immediately after, cooler weather returned
• Recent nights in the 50s slowed Bermuda growth
👉 Normally this transition happens in late May
👉 This year it began in mid-April

🌿 Why the Turf Looks Patchy
You’re seeing the in-between stage:
• Rye grass = fading out early
• Bermuda grass = slow to “wake up”
This creates:
• Thin or bare-looking areas
• Color variation (green + brown mix)
• Less consistent turf in spots

🧠 How Bermuda Grass Works
Bermuda grass thrives in heat, not cool weather.
It needs:
• Warm soil temperatures
• Nighttime temps in the 60s–70s+
➡️ Once consistent warmth arrives, Bermuda will:
• Fill in quickly
• Improve density
• Restore full playing conditions

🚫 What This Is NOT
• ❌ Not a watering issue
• ❌ Not disease
• ❌ Not dying turf
✅ This is a natural, weather-driven transition

📅 What to Expect
Short Term
• Some thin or uneven lies
• Firmer playing surfaces
Coming Weeks
• Rapid improvement as temperatures rise
• Bermuda grass filling in and thickening

👍 Bottom Line
This is a temporary transition, happening earlier than usual due to unusual weather patterns.
➡️ With a few weeks of consistent warmth, course conditions will improve quickly.
