If you’ve spent some time in our tasting room or browsed the Mercantile, you’ve likely noticed the artwork of on our walls.
Those large, layered pieces - vibrant drawings done over antique 19th-century maps, checks, and old ledger pages - are by Terrance Guardipee. Terrance is a member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, and one of the most important Native American artists working today.
The connection to Picayune started years ago in New York. Claire was visiting a Manhattan museum, saw Terrance’s work, which completely stopped her in her tracks. She was immediately won over by the visual energy of the pieces and the deep sense of history built into them.
Later on, their paths crossed, a great friendship grew, and a natural partnership was born. It didn’t hurt that Terrance’s wife shares our deep love for a good glass of wine, either!
