Our highly anticipated 2025 Tiger Lily Dry Rosé is officially released, on the tasting menu, and available to order from our website.

We've previewed the wine to our club members and other guests. One said it reminded her of a red cherry Staurburst. My tasting note is fruit punch and raspberry.

The deep color of this wine is intense. We made this from Noiret grapes picked last October (picture 2). Deeply pigmented, the grapes imparted a ton of color even with a direct press. You can see the lab sample immediately after pressing (picture 3).

This is our first release from the 2025 harvest. It's bittersweet to think this is one of the last wines that Mark helped me make (picture 4). We will definitely be thinking of him as we pour it in the tasting room.

It makes me think of one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite wine movies, Sideways.

Maya: I like to think about what was going on the year the grapes were growing; how the sun was shining; if it rained. I like to think about all the people who tended and picked the grapes. And if it's an old wine, how many of them must be dead by now. I like how wine continues to evolve, like if I opened a bottle of wine today it would taste different than if I'd opened it on any other day, because a bottle of wine is actually alive.

Come check it out.

Filtration today.

We put most of our white and rosé wines through this process prior to bottling.

1 and 2. Check out the filter screens before and after filtering our latest Tiger Lily Dry Rosé.

3. A look at filtration of the Riesling that I blend into the rosé to add a little punch of acidity.

4 and 5 The before and after of the rosé tank. Full of wine and then cleaned out.

Come see us this weekend for a preview of our highly anticipated 2025 Tiger Lily Dry Rosé. Available to purchase in a few days!

I am SO grateful for our wine club. I never remember (or have time) to take pictures during these events, but Jess grabbed this one in the barrel room after we set everything up. I also love that it shows off the custom bar built by our very own Jim Springsteen.

We had a great turnout yesterday. Amazing food, great conversations, and the Merlot library flights were so much fun. We poured Merlots from 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, along with our 2021 Merlot/Carménère blend.

We also pulled a tank sample of our next Tiger Lily Dry Rosé. The feedback wasn't just "good"... it was, "When can we get some?!" (Hint: very soon).

Thank you to everyone who joined us. And thank you as well for the kind words, hugs, and shared tears as we continue to remember Mark.

The glamorous side of winemaking.

Today the crew hand-bottled, hand-corked, hand-packed, and hand-stacked 1,335 bottles of our 2024 Honeycrisp Apple Wine.

As a traditional, old-world style winemaker, this wine tends to fly under my radar personally. But it is a crowd favorite, especially in the fall and definitely when mulled with cider and spices.

Stop in and taste it for yourself. And while you're here, give our newly released five-grape Bordeaux-style blend, 2022 Mélange (45% Cab Franc, 25% Petite Verdot, 15% Carménère, 7.5% Cab Sauv, 7.5% Merlot) and our latest Pinot Gris from 2023.

1. The crew hard at work on the bottling line.
2. Nicholas and Adam proud of the morning's effort.
3. Springsteen at the helm running the gravity filler.
4. Antique green bordeaux style bottles awaiting their corks.
5. Fresh logo corks repping the Creek.
6. The rail of shame. Six casualties leftover from May's Pinot Gris bottling line. Only two from today!

Nice work on a smooth bottling day.

Friends and family of HCW -

My cousin came up with a great way to honor Mark and keep his memory alive for years to come. We are putting together an annual scholarship for a graduating Wayland High School student-athlete. Mark (WHS Class of 1993) was a gifted track and cross-country runner, and a brilliant student. I think it would make him happy to know that we are able to support the educational goals of someone like-minded in his name.

It will take some time to get a foundation started, so we decided that we would do a Go Fund Me campaign to fund this year's scholarship.

Many have asked if there is anything they can do in the aftermath of the tragedy that took place on March 25th. This might be a perfect way to do something meaningful and potentially life-changing. Please consider participating if you are able.

We will be presenting the award to Wayland High School's recipient on May 19th.

On Sunday, April 19th, Hickory Creek Winery will be closed as we gather to honor and celebrate the life of Mark.

Mark wasn’t just part of the winery—he was part of the heartbeat of this place. A friend, a steady presence, and someone who made it better for all of us.

Thank you for your understanding as we take this time together.

Heartbroken. Devastated. HCW will not be the same without Mark.

My brother, my lifelong best friend, and a longtime Hickory Creek employee was taken from us Wednesday evening. While walking near his home in Kalamazoo, he was hit by a car traveling at a dangerously high rate of speed. The driver appeared to be racing another vehicle. It was a hit and run accident that is still under investigation.

I thought about closing for the weekend. After careful consideration and discussion with our team, we have decided to remain open. Our staff is reeling. But we thought Mark would want us to be together and serve our community and laugh and share stories and cry and hug and somehow get through this.

I will share information about services in the next few days.

Happy Birthday to the steady hand behind the bar, our Tasting Room Manager, Jeffrey.

If you’ve ever had a perfect pour, a calm answer to a complicated wine question, or a gentle redirect away from ranch dressing… you’ve met Jeffrey.

He doesn’t ask for attention.
He doesn’t make a big deal about anything.
He just shows up — every single day — and makes Hickory Creek better.

When he’s not guiding you through a flight, he’s probably thinking about his short game.

Sixteen harvests. Tens of thousands of guests. Countless bottles. One absolute legend.

If you’re in the tasting room this weekend, raise a glass and wish him a happy birthday.
