(1147)

We opened in December Friday the 13th in 1996 and decades later it is way different but still the same! We have evolved with dining trends, service styles, taken opportunities with new product and techie innovations and of course will continue to do so. What has never changed is the sharing with our guests our true passion for our craft, our community and our country. We want everyone to be as pr

oud as we are about New Zealand’s environment, the land and seas bounty, and the amazing people who harvest or produce from it. Working closely with these passionate producers inspires and excites the team who are proud to share their stories, and we always welcome new seasons and new to the market produce from suppliers and give it a go. We care deeply about our country’s environment so source locally, sustainable produce and strictly avoid the likes of dredged scallops and at-risk species such as blue fin tuna and whitebait. We get that a restaurants carbon foot print can be significant so meet the challenge of minimising it with an Environmark program.

Pearl 11: Our Diamond

Calling Debbie Jones a pearl doesn't quite do her justice.

Deb joined Logan Brown during the challenges of 1999, helping steer the business through cash-flow pressures, renovations, and uncertainty. More than twenty-five years later, she's still with us, now as a shareholder, business partner, and trusted voice in many of our biggest decisions.

Her practical know-how, common sense, and emotional intelligence have helped shape Logan Brown in countless ways.

Quite simply, Deb is our diamond.

Pearl 10: Growing Leaders

By the end of 2000, a new generation of leaders was beginning to emerge. Shaun Clouston had risen through every section of the kitchen after starting with us just weeks after opening, eventually helping lead Logan Brown through its formative years before heading to Sydney to broaden his horizons.

The reins passed to Des Harris, while Hannah Marshall and Natasha Ellis rose through the front-of-house ranks. Together, these leaders helped shape the culture, consistency, and systems that still underpin Logan Brown today.

As the business matured, we were no longer simply trying to survive. We were learning how to thrive.

Pearl 09: The Comeback

Our gamble paid off. We opened a new version, Logan Brown Restaurant and Bar, and the response was immediate. The energy had shifted, and people noticed.

Local media quickly became regulars, bringing their networks as word spread. At the same time, The Lord of the Rings was filming, and cast members added to the buzz.

There were moments of tension, but we held our course. The bar hummed, the energy returned, and before long we were back to a busy, vibrant restaurant filled with life.

A few months in, we made the restaurant smoke-free. It took a year to repay our loans, but stability finally followed.

Pearl 08: The Reset

As the new millennium began, we focused on a fresh start. We closed for two weeks while Trace Murdoch and his team delivered an extraordinary refit.

To soften the building’s grandeur, we relocated the bar to the entrance, creating a cocktail-focused centrepiece with a wine library and saltwater fish tank. Guests could flow straight to the bar on arrival, removing any sense of intimidation.

We introduced softer colours and textures, redesigned uniforms, refreshed the menu, and rethought service and table settings. The new direction was reflected in our updated logo, introducing the martini glass.

This wasn’t just a renovation. It was a reset.
