Our guests explored six wines from Winnica Turnau, paired with a menu inspired by classic Polish cuisine and reimagined by the Noble Rot kitchen.

What a way to open Wellington On a Plate 2026.

Last night’s A Royal Affair at Noble Rot was everything we hoped it would be—an evening celebrating the grandeur of European royal dining, paired with some of the world’s most iconic wines. From England to Champagne, Burgundy, the Rhône, Piedmont, Bordeaux and Alsace, every course told a story of history, craftsmanship and exceptional terroir.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and made the opening night so memorable. The atmosphere, conversations and shared passion for great food and wine made it truly unforgettable.

Following his recent journey to Vienna as New Zealand’s Star Wine List Ambassador, Noble Rot sommelier Maciej Zimny returns with stories, discoveries, and an exceptional line-up of wines from some of Austria’s most revered producers, including F.X. Pichler, Leo Alzinger, and Bründlmayer.

Enjoy an Austrian-inspired degustation featuring an amuse bouche, five courses, and ten outstanding wines, including benchmark Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners from the legendary vineyards of the Wachau, elegant Austrian reds, and a sweet finale from one of Austria’s most celebrated estates.

Some evenings remind us why we fell in love with wine in the first place.

On Saturday night, Noble Rot had the privilege of hosting a truly extraordinary gathering — a Celebration of Life centred around a remarkable 6-litre Methuselah of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échézeaux 1996.

The story of this bottle began more than 25 years ago, when a group of passionate New Zealand wine lovers came together to purchase what would become known as “The Big Bottle”. Since then, it has travelled from Pegasus Bay to Marlborough, patiently waiting for the right occasion and the right people to share it with.

On 6 June 2026, that moment finally arrived.

The evening brought together some of New Zealand’s most respected winemakers, winegrowers, journalists and friends, representing Dog Point, Felton Road, Pyramid Valley, Ata Rangi, Bell Hill, Valli, Rippon, Quartz Reef, Neudorf, Novum, Te Kairanga, Millton and many others.

More importantly, it was an opportunity to celebrate friendship, community, and the lives of James Healy and Mike Weersing, whose presence was deeply felt throughout the evening. Their passion for wine, generosity, humour and friendship helped shape the New Zealand wine community we know today.

Wine has a unique ability to bring people together, but evenings like this remind us that the greatest memories are never about the bottle itself. They are about the people gathered around the table.

To everyone who travelled from near and far to be part of this historic occasion — thank you.
